Embarresssed by cousin's activity

I'd use the fact your kids evidently think body building is odd behavior as an opportunity to teach them about tolerance.
:thumbsup2

I personally see nothing wrong with bodybuilding. It's not my thing but a lot of things don't appeal to me. Different strokes...

That is the worst thing going on in your family?:rotfl2: Based on the issues in my family...be grateful and don't worry;)

Isn't that the truth!? Heck, my family has molestors, thieves, druggies & drunks, lazy living off welfare, underage pregnancies, bigots whose kids have interracial relationships, and uncle who married someone who used to be his niece, habitual liars, trouble makers, ultra religious, etc.

At family get togethers, there are those who bring foods you don't dare eat and you have to watch your all your belongings or they might get taken. And before any eating is done, we have to patiently wait through a fifteen minute prayer.

Consider yourself lucky.

It wouldn't thrill me, but I wouldn't worry about it excessively, either.

My niece married a guy who owns a tattoo parlor. The two of them are a walking freak show. You should see the wedding pictures. :scared1:

But their bodies and their choice. I won't lose sleep over it unless they try to talk my kids into tattoos and piercings.

I don't really see why you're embarrassed about your cousin's bodybuilding. It's a sport that results in one's body being changed or enhanced in some way. Big whoop.

Would you be embarrassed if your cousin was a swimmer and shaved off all his body hair? Or if he were a runner and had over-developed thigh and calf muscles? Or a gymnast with large shoulders?

I agree with this. Body building is a weird sport in my mind but there are worse things in the world. I had a really good friend, who lived by my mother so I saw her all the time. Her son was an Olympic class swimmer. I had to endure stories of all the shaving and what body parts and how hard it is to find a bathing suit that would fit because he was too much man. Way to much info for me. You could be hearing that at every family gathering be thankful it's just a weird sport.

I'm sorry but most people myself included would trade you if that's all you have to be embarrassed about in your family.

A body builder is the worst thing you've got going on in your family and you are embarassed? :confused3

I thought for sure this thread was going to be about some sort of criminal activity, cross dressing, affair having, lying loved one and all you've got is a body builder

I'll take the body builder - who do you wanna trade for? I've got 'em all!

More importantly - where are the pics?? popcorn::

my cousin is a stripper...I'm weirdly proud of her. Not at all embarrassed and you should see HER facebook photos!!!

Don't get this AT ALL!!!

I agree that body building is a STRANGE sport....

In fact, it is not just a sport...

I would consider it a very controlling and narcissistic obsession.
(sorry, no offense... JMHO... flame suit is on...)

I agree with the posters feelings about this family member.
Anyone comes up halfway dressed and starts flexing their muscles at me, and yep, it would be hard to stifle the head-shake or the eye-roll. :rotfl2:

But, nope, it is not even worth posting here about...
Like, so what... Not a real problem...
Just ignore him!!!!
(hint: that is the only way to deal with narcissicsm :))

I thought this was going to be something about the cousin doing something illegal. I think you should learn to be more tolerant. It's his body and there is nothing wrong with it. At least he takes care of himself and works out. Would you feel the same way if he was 500lbs and didn't take care of himself?

The stories I could tell you about DH's nieces and nephews... :sad2:

Pass the body builder this way. I'll be glad to swap. :rotfl2:

I wouldn't allow my kids to do something like that -- I'd probably tell them the same thing as if they were teasing someone who was unattractive or overweight/underweight.

I had cousins who were wrestlers and body builders. They were huge! We were extremely proud of them. I guess I don't get the embarrassment at all. They put a lot of work and effort into their sport.

Just saw his latest picture on facebook:scared1:

All he has on is the tiniest bikini-and he is all shaven clean with a dark, dark "fakish" tan.

Sorry-I find it repulsive-especially displaying your body constantly on the Internet.:confused3

Maybe you shouldn't keep looking at it if it bothers you that much.

Maybe he's getting positive feedback by people who care about him. After all, this is a sport that a lot of people are into.

I find it weird that you are monitoring his body on Facebook, so you can comment on him.

So he is a body builder. Yes it is not a sport for everyone. I watched a documentary or show, which followed a couple of professional body builders competing for a title.

Talk about monitoring what you eat! Wow, what that an eye opener. They could tell you the effect of a food you eat has on your body. It was really interesting.

I was thinking the same thing! Yea, he may be a bit full of himself, but he'll get some sense knocked into him!

This is so true. Trust me, someday he'll realize that he isn't all the thinks he is. In the meantime OP, just hang in there! While it's uncomfortable and awkward, just smile and be supportive. And thank goodness that he's the only embarassing family member you have! :thumbsup2

You took the words right out of my mouth (well, actually my fingertips...)

Exactly

OP they have a button on facebook to ignore a person. You can keep them as a friend but not get the updates too.

More importantly--Get over it, for goodness sakes. How does this negatively affect you, and your kids?
