I just bought some vacuum cleaner bags at Sears and I guess Sears, Kmart, and Lands End are all moving to emailed only receipts. I think it is a GREAT idea. I now have an electronic folder to keep all that "stuff" in and an easy way to search if I need it in the future. You can check the computer screen to make sure everything is correct (price, etc.) before you pay at the store. One more paperless option :thumbsup2

It will make TAX TIME easier too, just cut and paste number into a spreadsheet.

The Apple store does the same thing. I also love how they have those little handled devices to check you out. It's about the size and appearance of a cell phone. You tell them (in my case) you want a 16 GB 3G iPad, and they bring one out and then ask for you credit card and while standing there, they swipe your card through the device and ask if you want your receipt printed or emialed to you. No walkign over to a register....although what if I had paid cash?

You ever see the Visa/MC commercial where everything is working smooth with everyone paying with Visa/MC until someone tries to use something else :thumbsup2

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Besides, my credit card doubles any warranty so I always use it for electronic purchases.

Wow! DW will love this. She always has to chase me down every month to get all of my Visa receipts out of my wallet. By the end of the month my wallet looks like George Costanza's, and, inevitably, some of the receipts get lost. This way I wouldn't have to worry, and she'd get her receipts right in her inbox!

I'm so tempted, these days, to buy this:

It's a printer, but also a scanner, but more importantly, it has an auto-feeder. So I envision feeding - not everything, but practically everything - through it: Bank statements, credit card statements, utility bills, full-page receipts, etc., and then file the scan in an online backup service like Carbonite. Everything scanned goes in the trash, thereby staying out of our "to be filed" pile (which is now over 12 inches high).

Enough with this paper silliness!

Nordstom does this too. Love it!!

I bought one like that when our printer died last summer. It is SOOO nice. The auto feed is very nice but I especially like that it has a paper tray vs having the paper sit in the back of the printer. I got mine at Office Max for under $150-I think it was on sale for $125. It works great (Lexmark).

I think it's a great idea. Should've been done a long time ago.

If they give you a choice, that's great. Personally, I'd like it. However, there really are still some people without internet access in their homes. My ILs are elderly and have zero computer skills and no internet. Dh is a public school teacher in a blue collar area and there are many families in his district with no internet.

It was a choice. There was a button on the keypad thing that said "emailed receipt" or "paper receipt".

And there are still parts of the country where people can only get dial up! We own a home in Vermont, and there is no option for DSL or cable internet (or cable tv) Sure, you can can get satellite internet, but it costs like $100 a month for a limited amount.

I do think the online receipts is a great idea...it will be easier to find what I need at tax time, and if I need proof of purchase for a warranty issue I'll know where it is. And those darn receipts printed with that shiny paper fade so quickly, this will eliminate that problem as well.

Since they offer you a choice I like the idea :thumbsup2

The only question that I have is what if security at another store searches your bag and you have no receipt? There are quite a few stores around here that search your bag if you walk in with a bag from another store (for instance, we have a walmart that is attached to a mall... if I walk into walmart from the mall entrance with a sears bag the walmart security guard will search my sears bag, he will also search my sears bag if I leave walmart via the mall entrance)

I can log into my webmail access with my smartphone... that should satisfy them.

I'm all for it. The less paper the better. If I need to show proof of purchase I can pull up the emailed receipt on my phone (coverage permitting).

Not everyone has to benefit from the latest advancements. :teacher:
