Elf on the Shelf - slightly annoyed

Okay, I caved in and got the Elf on the Shelf last year. Fine, I'll move the thing every night from one location to the other. I set the alarm on my phone so I'll remember. But, no, it can't be that easy. Now my kids have their friends telling them all the candy and treats their elf brings, and the fun ways the elf is posed. Why is our elf so boring? Now I have all THAT to deal with??

Lol. Their mom is lazy, more like it. The elf goes to the north pole every night to tell santa what happens in the house (naughty stuff, etc.). That's the story at least.

Elf on the shelf was cute in the beginning but thanks to Pinterest it is becoming a who can top who.

I'm so glad we only have Macabee on the Mantle who is not suppose to do silly things or report to anyone on the kids but rather serve as a cuddly companion that hangs out with them during this month especially during the 8 days of Hanukkah. We don't have kids but have one hoping the nieces and nephews will ask about him if they see him

I read somewhere that it's become sort of a competition. Go to pinterest, they have some really cute ideas.

I'm SO glad I never got one (never heard of it when my kids were little).

I thank my lucky stars every Christmas season that I never started down this road! I can barely handle all the normal Christmas stuff plus the tooth fairy year round.

I hate the elf. I never wanted one in the first place. I actively feigned ignorance for two years. "Honey, I just don't even know where they come from? I don't know how your house gets picked to have one." But when my (then) 7-year-old came home practically in tears and said "My friends say all you have to do is wish for one... and I've been wishing and wishing, but he still won't come." I had to bite the bullet and get one. Then she went around the house demanding that we all thank her because *she's* the reason we got an elf... because *she* wished for it. Gee, thanks kid. Thanks a lot. ;-)

Our elf mostly just moves. He's not nearly as active as other elves. He brings candy canes once a season... and he does "something" about once a week. The rest of the time he just moves around. Quite frankly, I don't quite understand how some people do their elaborate stuff. Since you're not supposed to touch the elf during the day and he doesn't move till the next night -- can you just not use your kitchen table/toilet/whatever for the rest of the day. I can bet that if we left marshmallows or pretzel sticks or graham crackers out, the dogs would have a nice snack... and I would imagine the poor elf might get caught in the mix. Wouldn't that be traumatic. (We semi-melted our elf once. He hung out too close to a lightbulb. I thought my daughter was going to be scarred for life. She was practically hysterical.)

She's 11 now and is "wishing and wishing" that our elf would do something more exciting... but I think she's going to have to keep wishing for that!

Our elf is lame too. When my kids tell me what their friends elves are doing I tell them they all have naughty elves and aren't they so glad we have a good one who doesn't leave messes for them to clean up after!

Elves really should not be naughty. We try to teach our kids not to do naughty things so why would it be ok for their elf to do them? It's funny for grown ups but it ain't happening in my house!

So glad we missed out on the whole Elf thing. I was the bad mom who sat my youngest (3rd grader at the time) down after Christmas and explained that we bought all the presents. Just couldn't keep up with the stress and pretense any longer.

I forget to move it or do a prank almost every night and then I have to race my kids downstairs to hurry up and move it!

Gads, that sounds like Christmas every morning of the Christmas season.

So glad those weren't around when our kids were little. I totally would have started and regretted it. I still rue the day the dang Easter bunny sent everyone on a scavenger hunt.

My DD's MIL thought she was doing a good thing when she gave them an elf last year. NOT. This year, when DGS asked where the elf was, DSIL told him that Santa had recalled him to the North Pole to help get all the toys ready in time for Christmas. The kid didn't even bat an eye.

My 9 year old daughter has practically begged for one for the past two years but I refuse to give in. Even her class had one last year.

Glad my kids are too old for the elf '. When they were little we would put one of their doll beds by the tree and told them it was for baby Jesus. Every time they were caught doing something nice and above and beyond normal good behavior, they got to put some "hay" in the manger. They better they behaved, the softer the bed for baby Jesus. Now, we just hide Mickey...whoever finds him gets to hide him. The fun of this is we do it all year too
