Electronics shopping- Eastern

HI everyone,
We will be sailing on the 10 day Christmas cruise and my daughter really wants an Apple Ipod for Christmas. Because of this cruise we are not getting the kids too much and this is the ONE Thing she really really wants. So here is my question. They retail here for about $249 ( that's for the mini, she wants a pink one) Do you think I can find them either in St. Marten or St Thomas cheaper?? If anyone has cruised recently and seen them or cruising in the next week or 2 and could check this out for me I would really appreciate it.

You do realize that there will not be a warrantee on the device (honored by Apple or anyone else in the US) if you buy it abroad?

You can get that IPOD for about $235 mail order in the US.

Last December I had a number of different electronic items that I was interested in. I had checked out prices out home before sailing.

We were on the Eastern and in every single case, the prices were higher in port than at my local Best Buy.

In some cases the prices were above suggested retail. My imprssion was that they were hoping that people did not know their prices.

So don't count on finding a deal.

That is not true about Apple not honoring warranty of products bought out side the USA. I have bought a Apple Powerbook in Japan and warranty problems have been taken care of it here in the USA. Also my dad bought an Ipod at London's Heathrow last month. Apple is one of the few computer companies that is all over the world, they offer warranty on all there products in any country. When you return home you just have to call Apple USA and register your product. I dont remember if electronics were cheaper on our eastern cruise, spent more time at beach then shopping sorry.

When we were there in June, DH said he didn't think the electronics/cameras were any kind of a deal. DS kept wanting to buy video games, but I believe they were the same and some higher.

The key here is to know your prices before you buy.
