Electronic Ticket Question

Can I pick up my "paper" tickets before my trip? If yes, how could I do this? Is it as simple as taking a trip to the airport and bringing the proper identification?

This is my first experience with the "e" ticket so I am a little leary of it.

Most airlines will print a paper ticket for you free of charge. You need your confirmation number and ID and some airlines may ask to see the credit card you used to purchase. If the airline has a city ticket office, you can go there or of course the ticket counter at the airport.

I also highly recommend going to a city ticket office. I have used the one in my area more than once. The only reason I prefer to have a paper ticket in hand is if there is some sort of problem. Say your flight is cancelled and you need to switch airlines. You would have to wait through the original airlines line to get a paper ticket and then go the other airline to be (I think the term is 240'd) transfered.

Sheryl, When do the $10 fees kick in? I thought it was American and Delta that are starting with those paper-ticketing fees, right?

American did announce several weeks ago that they were initiating a $10 fee for paper tickets. I was not aware that Delta had a similar policy. Did you read this somewhere?

Sometimes agents at airline offices and airport counters will waive otherwise mandatory fees. I have not heard of any specific cases since this fee was just initiated recently.

The memo I have states that as of june 1 AA will initiate the 10 fee to issue paper tkts.

I don't remember what the other airline was... the only think I'm sure of is American. I suppose the others are waiting to see how it works out with AA. I know that they were supposed to start doing this in April. The fact that they're just starting indicates that the may have had some concerns about it. Time will tell how it works out.

American Airlines began assessing the $10 fee for paper tickets on April 9th and continues to do so. Tickets booked through travel agents are exempt.

most travel agencies charge their own fee for paper tkts. our tkt cntr here in pit hasn't charged yet for paper tkts but then again 90% are e-tkts.
