Hi:

My DH recently quit smoking cigarettes and is now using electronic cigarettes as he breaks the "habit". Have any of you taken them on a flight, and if so, did you check them or put them in carry-on?? I don't think it matters, but if it does, we're flying Delta - Boston to MCO. Thanks!

IMO, this would fall in the category of "valuables" and should be in one's checked luggage. There's nothing about them that would restrict them from being carried on; just don't use them on the plane.

I think you meant in your carry on?

I think you're right! I also think there should be an official rule against posting with fewer than X hours of sleep!! Goodness knows, I haven't got the self-discipline to restrict myself, myself! ;)

Thanks for the correction, safetymom! :teeth:

The electronic cigarette isn't actually a cigarette; it just soothes your cravings for nicotine. There is no problem if carried on flight as you can legally smoke electronic cigarette anywhere.

That may be the advertising pitch, but it isn't true. In-flight, only approved electronic devices can be used, and to my knowledge, no airline has approved e-cigarettes. Many specifically prohibit them, such as American (http://www.aa.com/i18n/amrcorp/corporateInformation/facts/safety.jsp) and Continental (http://www.continental.com/web/en-us/content/travel/baggage/dangerous.aspx),

Of course, carrying them isn't the same as using them. Carrying them shouldn't be a problem.
