Electrical Water Pageant

Thierry444,

Those people were being rude and giving you rude answers. It's a really great and cool idea to drive up to the Polynesian and watch it while drinking the Kona Coffee and eating pucker powder.

Have Fun!

OK, are we supposed to close our eyes when going past another resort that we are not paying for on our way to a park? That question is just as silly as those who would try to terrorize someone for asking a question. Very UnDisneylike IMO.

Thierry, my dear, I can promise you that you CAN go to one of the lagoon resorts and check out the EWP. As you can see by my signature I am 'required' to go see it at least once each visit. :rotfl2: It is a terribly hard job but one I am willing to take on for the sake of my EWP Suite mates.

We usually go over and eat at 1900 Park Fair and then wander down to the beach to see the parade. The best place we have watched it from was the Wilderness Lodge. It seemed a bit closer than from the Poly.

The only problem is that unless you are driving it can be a bit daunting getting back as you will have to go to DTD and catch a bus back to your resort. We have often met some very nice people at the bus stop though. Most people ARE nice I have found. :)

Other than the one time we watched it with some friends who WERE staying at the Poly and watched it from the pool area we have seldom had anyone else on the beach with us. The best times have been when there WERE others as we enjoyed visiting while waiting..

For me it is fine if the people staying at the Deluxes want to come over and eat at the AS Sports food court with me.

I think it is good advertisement for guests to check out the other resorts as they may well decide to stay there the next trip or whenever their budget or tastes decide.

I enjoy the Electrical Water Pageant , first time I seen it was in 1987 from a boat going from CR to FW the captain stopped the boat about 50 feet away it was great.

One of my vivid memories of 30 years ago was, as a kid my dad taking us to the Polynesian going out back to the beach to see the electrical parade. We stayed off site!! Back then there were only 2 resorts. Anyway, I remember falling in love with the Polynesian back then and vowing that someday I would bring my family there. Well we have stayed there maybe 3-4 times and love it. So being ALLOWED to go watch was definantely in their favor. We are DVC members now and our home resort is The Villas at the Wilderness Lodge! I can tell you that you would be welcome any time to watch the parade on the beaches at the Lodge!!!! So Theirry, here's hoping you have a trip of a lifetime.

Why not try watching the WP from the beach at WL. You can take a boat from MK over (10 minutes) and enjoy some nice views on the way. After the WP is over (it starts at 9:35 pm at the WL) you can take the boat back to MK or bus to your hotel avoid the crowds leaving the Pol.

Ca vaut la peine!

Hi Thierry :wave2:
You most certainly can watch ELP from the Poly beach---we actually prefer watching it from the WL beach, but either way it's allowed. It's a short and not very fancy parade, but nice nonetheless. http://www.allearsnet.com/tp/ewp.htm
Anyone (Poly guest or non) is welcome to visit the resort to tour, dine or shop. Enjoy and have a great trip

Thierry, don't let all the warm and fuzzy posts fool you. The second you say something they don't agree with...they will tear you a new one! :ssst:

Is this the parade of boats light up with stars and stripes etc?
If so, we saw this while waiting for a bus back to our resort from M.K.
I have to say this was about a week or so after the terrible attack in New York, we travelled to WDW the first week that they allowed air travel back to your country from England. I found the parade to be very moving and thought the response of the American people to the parade inspirational.

We have been back to WDW since but will always remeber that parade.

Sorry if this is not appropriate for this thread but it got me thinking.

I've watched at WL at the boat dock. It was so close to us. You can also watch it where the gyser is and when my family and I were staying at WL we were able to see it from our hotel room on the 6th floor. When I stayed at the CBR my dad and mom and brother and I drove up to the Poly and watched it right on the beach. I had fun playing in the sand... It actually is a great idea and I think you should go for it!

I wouldn't be so hasty there, Poly Rules. With only 2 posts to your name right now, you shouldn't have such vast experience in how the DIS board tears people apart :smokin: 'Nuff said.

Thierry, I will disagree with the above and not be warm and fuzzy, but say that I am embarrassed by the posters here who insist on hitting the negative side all the time but not just answering the questions. Always has to be that caveat. It took me a lot of lurking before joining for that very reason.

One of my favorite childhood memories was the ELP. My parents still talk about it when we talk about our upcoming visit. I think you'll really enjoy it. Given the way some Americans can embarass the rest of us all while traveling around the world, I hardly think viewing the ELP from a hotel that you are (shhh) "not staying at" is a crisis in most WDW vacationers eyes. Just don't come sit in my room to watch.

New or someone who didn't want to post under their regular user name??? Food for thought. ;)

What's really funny is that is really isn't worth trucking all the way up to the Poly from the All-Star resorts to see the Electrical Light Pagent. We had it drift by our room at the Wilderness Lodge six times in January, and didn't bother even point it out to the kids. It's a nice-to-see if it happens to be going by when you're outside, but surely not something worth going out of your way to see.

Regarding Wishes, you're better off watching it from inside the Magic Kingdom. It's, again, a nice-to-see if you happen to already be at the Poly (perhaps having dinner) but it is no where near worth the trip just to see Wishes from a half-mile away.

I agree, and that's not just because we stay there and don't want other people there :confused3
I'll watch it before my kids do . A few nights they were in the pool and didn't even care to look at it.
Although you can see the fireworks from the beach, it's so much nicer to see
it closer.
If someone is going to travel from the All stars, you might as well go to MK, it's right there with a better view.

Now see....we much prefer watching it from the Poly or especially the WL. Just the ambience. I don't think we've ever had more than a dozen people viewing it with us and there were times we had the beach to ourselves. At the WL we like to get comfy in the lounge chairs on the beach and sit back and relax, soaking up the atmosphere of the resort. Also it's free admission to view it from the beach......

You can also see it from the Grand Floridian beach. I'm not quite sure why but it always seems to cause a bigger uproar when someone says something about watching it from the Poly. I've been a lagoon view concierge guest at the Poly twice and I don't remember there being a problem with being able to see everything because of other guests on the beach. You are definitely welcome at the beach at the Poly or any other resort for that matter. By the way, I'd like to take this opportunity to publicy thank the French people for the hospitality that I receive a year ago in December in Paris. It was a trip of a lifetime for me as well and one that I will not forget!!

I would like to thank all the people who reply to my question - even those who disagree with me. I think we're going to watch ELP from Wilderness Lodge on our first night and we will wait to visit MK to watch Wishes from Main Street. At first, I wanted to be on the Polynesian's beach in order to avoid crowd but I now realize that viewing the fireworks from there wouldn't be as impressive as if we were in MK.

Hey, here is an idea...if you want to take advantage of the deluxe resort's ammenities, pony up the cash and stay there. Guests of the Polynesian pay a lot of money for the location. It should not be overrun by non-guests hanging out. :stir:

We paid the money for the view and seeing the area clutter with non paying guests, is not fair. I don't go to their resort to use their facilities,. Its like paying the price of the values and pool hopping because their pool is bland and the deluxes are awesome. You get what you pay for, want better, it costs you. I paid the price.

Turning the issue around a little: It does seem to me that Disney's leniency with regard to who it allows through the gates at the front of its resorts is a problem. Surely, folks with dining reservations warrant a three-hour pass, but why allow anyone else through? This is a major security concern, and clearly is also a source of concerns by guests with regard to the value of the premium rates they're paying. While I would regret not being able to visit AKL to see the animals and regret being unable to bring some family members to my other home at WL to see the wonderful atrium, I think security and value for price paid trump my desire to have these freebies.

The resort welcomes not only diners, but those who wish to shop at the resort as well. We came in one time just for that reason. As for viewing of the EWP.....I have never witnessed any crowds or the inability for resort guests to view the parade due to a handful (if that) of non resort guests watching the parage ? I've also never seen any indication where AKL guests couldn't get a view of the animals because of non-resort guests ? We're frequent diners at Boma and always set some time aside to check out the animals. I've never seen that many people "blocking" views or whatever :confused3 I don't see why this is even an issue ? Disney welcomes guests to their resorts----it often means extra revenue in the way of dining, shopping or perhaps a future guest at the resort.

Sorry, I wasn't clear about what I was saying before. I was saying that that open-door policy is a security problem, and evidently also raises value-concerns on the part of guests. That's why I wonder why the policy hasn't changed. Security, alone, should be enough to make it change.
