Is listed at 8:45 PM in May, and the park closes at 9... does that sound right, or are they going to adjust the parade start time as we get closer??

Yup, that sounds right. The big crowd of people usually follow the parade. The shops and rides start closing also.

Are you staying at the Grand Californian?
If you watch the parade by the Golden Dreams theatre you can get there by using the pathway to the Grizzly River Run. There is an entrance to the hotel across from the Grizzy River Run. You shouldn't have any problem at all.

We tend to watch it in the plaza directly across from the VIP seating. Same view, just no folding chair.
