Anyone use electric toothbrush for children? Ages 5 and 7. If so what brand?

We use Trumph Professioal Care from oral- B .Got it at the Dentist office paid a little over $75. for it but worth it!

Sonicare makes one especially for children. Check out riteaid.com - I believe they still have an 'instant' coupon.

We use the electric toothbrushes founds at discount and grocery stores for less than $10. I find that whether you buy the expensive or cheap they all eventually build up this layer of scum on the handles. You shouldn't submerse them in water. When the base gets funky they go in the trash!

Funny, just went to the dentist the other day and they talked about kids' electric toothbrushes. Both the hygienist and dentist said that for kids, the cheap $5-$10 would do as it's really a matter of parental supervision to make sure the brushing gets done. Once they have a full set of permanent teeth, then invest in a better one.

That being said, they always compliment how good my teeth and gums look and I just use one of the $25 Oral B Vitality ones.

You can take care of this by dousing a cotton pad with mouthwash and rubbing it down! The mouthwash is an antiseptic, cuts right through that gunk, and is perfectly safe to go onto your toothbrush. :thumbsup2

I would start off with a cheap one. The key to brushing is doing it often and thoroughly, not so much about the type of brush you use. Just make sure to get soft bristles and teach them to brush after meals and before bed time and you will likely see an improvement in the dentist visit next time.

Yes, cheap, cheap, cheap! We've been using the cheap one for DS7 for about 2 years now. Between him dropping them, chewing while he brushes, and little brother breaking them, we're sticking with the cheap ones! We have new brushes for DH and I, had extra heads for the Crest Spinbrush so we got him one of those to try. It lasted 2 months before he dropped and broke it! :sad2:

DS8 and DD13 both use electric toothbrushes and have for years. DS has never had a cavity and DD13 has only had 1. They use Oral-B electric toothbrushes and they cost under $10 at CVS or Wal-Mart.

I just bought two of the sonicare for kids from the dentist. My kids are getting braces soon and brushing of course will be even more important. The toothbrushes have different faceplates to put on, and plays a little tune every 30 seconds so they know to go to the next zone. My younger child likes it so much she brushes for 4 minutes rather than 2. She had a hard time brushing effectively before this toothbrush-even with the light up one, the one that plays a song, and the regular $7 electric toothbrush. Often had to send her back multiple times to brush her teeth more. She loves it so much, it was worth the money for her to actually use it.

We all use the $20 Oral B Vitality ones too. They are great. I too also get compliments from the dental assistant on how clean the teeth are. We've had ours for years and they work great.
