Electric Tea Kettle?

Does anyone know if you can request an electric tea kettle if you're in a studio? The friend I am taking on my next trip doesn't like microwaved water for her tea. She wants to bring her own kettle, but I told her I'd see if mousekeeping had one.

Don't know if they have electric kettles available but a stove top one is included in the 1 BR and up.

How about just water thru the coffee pot. If you leave the basket out it won't have that coffee taste.

Using the coffee pot could be a problem, since I'm a coffee drinker!!!

I don't think they have electric tea pots. As mentioned, they do have "real" teapots for the units with stoves. Someone recently requested and received a coffeemaker to make hot water (I can't remember the whole story) -- a second coffeemaker might be a possibility (not sure if they would provide 2 per room, they might).

Pam - a 2nd coffee maker is a great idea. I think I will e mail MS and ask about that. My friend is thinking of taking along her electric tea kettle! Last time we were in a 1BR (had our kids with us) and were spoiled. Since it's just the 2 of us next time, I thought I'd save the points with a studio.

Hi, I'm the person who got a brand new second coffee maker at OKW.
We were in a 1 bedroom with a brand new stove. When we noticed that there was no tea kettle (and we are big tea drinkers), I called housekeeping. I was told that they are waiting for new tea kettles that will work on the new ceramic cooktops on the stoves. Apparently the old type doesn't work properly on the ceramic cooktops. When I expressed my disappointment because we don't like microwved water either they offered me a brand new never been used coffee maker. It worked great. Having tried to make hot water in a previously used coffee maker I know that no matter what you try it still tastes like coffee!
You can try to call them and ask about a second coffee maker but I don't know what the reply will be. Good luck!

Hi,
I was interested to read this post as an English tea drinker. I always bring my own travel kettle with me and on past occasions have looked in stores in the USA to find one fitted with your 2 pin electric plug to save me the bother of having to use and adaptor plug but have never found one.As for using a coffee maker unless it is brand new I agree you can still taste coffee in it.

I was told by MS that I could request a 2nd coffee pot (they did not say if it would be a new one) but there is no guarantee they would have one available. So I think my friend will be bringing her own electric tea kettle.

Mick, there's no guarantee they'll have them in stock, but Wal-Mart would be a good place to look for the tea kettle. Here's one advertised on their website.

My mom used a small sauce pan to heat her tea water one time, she didn't like the looks of the kettle on the stove.

I always carry a tea kettle with me in the U.S. unless I'm going to someone's home. You can get one pretty cheap at Walmart.

I don't boil water in the microwave but how is it different?

Just curious. I'm not sure why I don't use it to boil water. I wasn't aware that the water was different.

I'm not really aware of a difference in microwaving the water vs. heating it in the kettle. Maybe out of habit, I prefer the stove for heating the water. (I also got a nasty burn one time from water in the microwave. I learned you have to be careful since it "superheats" from inside, when you first move the mug it can "erupt" from the center.)

I'm not sure why water heated in the microwave tastes different than water boiled on a stove or in an elctric kettle but it does. yes it can get just as hot but the taste is not the same. Maybe it has something to do with the boiling? No air gets into it in the microwave?
But then again I am comfortable with the water that comes out of the 'hot' spigot on my water cooler. It just isn't hot enough for some people. It's just that microwaved water tastes, I shall be kind here, less than ideal. (Awful, not as awful as using the coffee maker after it has been used for coffee, but not very good.)

Let's hear it for equal rights for tea drinkers! How many times do you ask for a second cup of tea at a restaurant and they bring you more hot water but not another tea bag. And when you ask for another tea bag you are told that you will be charged for a second tea bag! But they will refill coffee as often as you want without an additional charge. And if you figure it out coffee costs more per cup than tea! After all a 'pound' (yes I know that it is less than a full pound these days) costs more than a box of 100 tea bags and makes fewer cups of coffee!
Not too mention that it is nearly impossible to get decaff tea!
Ah well enough of my soap box. Good luck with your search for tea kettles and I hope that they resolve it before my next trip. I am tired of being a second class beverage citizen!

I agree that microwaved water just isn't as good for tea somehow.

Also a coffemaker will still produce hot water without that yucky coffee taste if you just remove the filter (and leave off the lid to the pot as it drips so there's no splashing). The glass pot doesn't hold the coffee taste...but be sure to wash it with soap first. I think sometimes it's just been rinsed! The water goes in the back which never has contact with coffee.
