I've been hearing about these on the board and had a few questions, we will be dining at Sci Fi our first day. What drinks do they come with? Do you have to request the ice cubes? Do you get to pick the color? Do they cost extra? Can we all have shakes and pay for ice cubes for our water? Do they sell these in the gift shop to buy for gifts to bring home?

TIA, Calie

The drinks that the cubes come in are listed on the menu, or you can ask the waiter. Usually the drink comes with whatever cube they happen to put in there, but I am sure if they have the color your child wants, they will be glad to accomodate. I don't know about Sci Fi, but if you go into the PrimeTime Lounge next to 50's Primetime Cafe they will sell the cubes to you individually. My DD has quite the collection!

There are specific drinks they come in and you request it. I was given a choice of color - red, blue or green. Most of the drinks are either alcoholic or a milkshake for kids I think. However, you don't have to do this either. We got one in the glow-in-the-dark cup with just a coke in it. It's a little expensive for a drink, although I dont' remember exactly how much it was...but it's cool. I have it sitting on the desk in front me actually, and I tend to play with it while I'm on here! :goodvibes

We were there 2/9 and the kids were asked what colour they wanted. You can't get them with the milkshakes only the soda drinks. My kids had both sprite and the ice cubes showed up really good. The total with the cup and the ice cubes are $5.99 US. The ice cubes last 12 hours total. Our waiter showed us you just have to it them to turn them off.

Here's a picture of my friend Barb with a silly drink at Narcoossee's:

Our boys got these ice cubes at prime time cafe, they were not the drink that came with the kids meal... we ordered the drinks with the souveneir cup...
i think they were something like stitch's electric lemonade etc...
something in the name gave away the fact that they had the glowing ice cubes
they will show you how you can turn them off and then on again when you leave.
They do not last forever! :(
Somewhere we saw them for sale individually?! Cant' remember where, maybe dtd?
i am sure if you ask your server, they will be able to point you in the right direction!

Our DD's got them in their drinks at Le Cellier. They loved them! They were not listed on the menu, we asked for them. All the kids around us were ordering them after they saw ours! I think we started something! :cool1: (they may be on the menu now, this was 2 years ago!)

We got them in Epcot at the San Angel Inn (Mexico). My dh got one in his cocktail. My dd played with the thing so much it ran out of batteries once we got home :-(

They may have changed things but we ate at 50's Prime Time on 12/26/04 and my kids DID get the ice cubes with their milkshakes. We paid extra for them but it's Disney and that's what they wanted! It can't hurt to ask!

DS usually gets an "ice cube drink" in one of the plastic souvenier cups (the ones that come with a lid and a straw) early in our stay, and then he uses it every day through out our trip. We fill it up at the drink station at our resort.* We don't turn on the ice cube until night time, so it doesn't burn out. We wash it out in the sink at the end of the evening, and it's ready to go the next morning. That way, we really get our money's worth out of it, and he has a really cool cup to carry around at night.

*Before anyone gets their panties in a knot about us filling it at the drink station, please be aware that we purchase a refillable mug for him at the beginning of our stay. The capacity of the souvenier cup is actually less than the mug, so we're not taking anything we didn't pay for.

Our cubes still work from last year :flower: We plan on getting some more this year too - they are lots of fun! :sunny:

You can actually buy these wholesale, If you have more than a few kids like I do 4, Its worth it to buy them and keep a case. ( Ok maybe I am justifying a crazy purchase)

At the Disney restauraunts they have the old style cube one color capacity. They are actually 6 hours. and they are tap on, tap off.

The ones I bought were 12 hour capacity,
They have an on and off button.
They are all colors, They start off green, blue, red, purple, rainbow and orange maybe? Then you can choose to blink all the colors randomly. You choose your color by pushing the button till you get your desired choice. They are a much better product.... same company supplies them this is just the newer version.

I did buy a case 24 ice cubes for $60 dollars. Sounds crazy but we go a few times a year. The kids always get them and it adds up. Also we use them here we throw them in teh pool and dive for them, in the bathtub. and the kids take them to the movies and put them in thier cokes at the movie theatres. I also am using them at my sons movie B-day party as favors.

The Company is CHEMLITE, it is out of Chicago. It is under bar novelties.
