Until recently that is the way that it used to be here in Pennsylvania. Guess so that you would not go to the polls drunk.

Any other states have/had laws such as this?

In Indiana, no booze sold until after the polls close at 6:00 PM. One of the political parties, in my area, has a hospitality room available with hard drinks to reward some of their "voters".

The license branches are closed here too.

It used to be that way in IL, or at least in Chicago, but no longer that way.

Interestingly enough I work for a company that owns over a thousand convience stores across the country and we sell beer in wine everywhere we can legally. We are affected by laws that were enacted in conjunction with the laws that shut down bars and liquor stores on election day. The first one is that in many states beer cannot be sold on credit. This applies even to a major chain of stores buying from a large wholsaler. It means cash, check or money order on delivery. The reasoning is that supposedly political candidates in large cities would say he would buy a drink for every person that would vote for him. He would set up the deal with the local bars. Then after he was elected, he would "forget" to pay the bill.

I don't know about buying liquor, but I've seen signs here saying that you can't buy lottery tickets today. They said on the radio this morning that it's mainly because the state doesn't have the resources to count lottery tickets and votes on the same day.

You'd think they'd want to have them open - champagne for the victor, the harder stuff for the other guy. :teeth:

Guess What! I was wrong. PA STILL has this law. I drove by the Liquor Store today and it was closed. I don't know about the beer distributor though...

Good thing I still have 9 Coronas in my trunk ;) :p

That explains WHY I didn't get any Beer or Wine delivered to my store today.:o ;)

Well I just purchased a half case of wine at the grocery store earlier today! I also bought some eggnog and brandy to boot. I voted, does this mean I can break the booze open and have a drink now? :p :p :p

In a state with some of the most backwards liquor laws, for some reason we lifted the ban on election day sales. So I got wasted and went to vote. Woo Hoo!

There will ALWAYS be good drinking here in Nevada! 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!! WooHoo! ;)

Heck! Give us another 2 years, and we'll have leagalized state-sponsered production and taxation of Marijuana!

Is there anything that's NOT immoral in Nevada? :o
