Election Day (non-political)

Yeah, we get it Dawn. You are a deep Conservative and you like talking about politics as they relate to you and/or your party. Got it.

However, since discussing political candidates, political parties or political agendas on the DIS is forbidden, and since this thread is about the TV commercials and how sick we all are of seeing them, you might want to lighten up on how happy you are over whatever is happening with your particular party in your particular part of the country. I'm kind of enjoying the discussion about how everyone is dealing with the non-stop political ads and I'd hate to see this thread closed because it became a topic of political debate.

Ditto! This thread is funny and I like funny threads!

AHHH, me too! In one day, my daughter got 7 phone calls on her cell phone while she was in school from the exact same political candidate. When they called in the evening, my husband read them the riot act... so far, so good. No more calls on her phone.

I'm not sure if it's because he's elderly and a member of AARP, but the amount of junk political mail being sent to my dad is astounding. I could build a forest with those flyers. We get some here at home, but nothing even coming close to the amount he gets.

But one good thing about election day -- all the bake sales and church lunches my town has. :goodvibes

Radio ads, tv ads, mass mailings, phone calls. I am freaking sick of it. :headache:

But we haven't gotten any calls on our cells, which is nice.

I can see November from my house and I like the view! :thumbsup2

So, where you live, there is some odd space-time distortion that allows you to see into the future?

Can you tell me what next week's Powerball Numbers are? Or who wins the World Series.

Via PM, of course.

What a waste of paper!!! I get about 6 political flyers in my mailbox everyday! The good thing is, DH isn't asking what came in the mail anymore:laughing:.

When you get the Powerball #'s, please forward them to me. I need my cut since I started the thread;).

:lmao:

WOW! Judging by the surveys out these days "Middle of the road" seems to be someplace very different than was presented by the media ect so everyone might want to consider easing up a bit. I think we'd all be better off it we listened to each other more, shut each other down less and tried to find middle ground.. aren't we supposed to be able to do that as adults? I can't take any more of this, it's so destructive... sigh ... I don't know about anyone else but I've had it

huh? :confused3

I'll be glad because all of our stations are sold out and we can start airing regular spots again! The political window is worse than sweeps!:headache:

Aren't political ads good for station revenue? Don't they pay the highest rate for spots?

I'll second Angelhalo's confusion. :confused3 The only political ad I can relate to LuvOrlando's post is that maybe she's tired of the ads taken out by third parties who just want to tell everyone what a menace candidate X is to society or how candidate X is a drunk or spendthrift or liar.

I don't expect advertising agencies to be adult about anything. Their job is to promote their product whether it's bread, deodorant or a political candidate.

I don't work for a station, we place spots on TV stations. We're always bumped because of the FCC requirements for politicals and it hurts us.

Actually they are offered the lowest unit rate (which varies per market, station and timeslot). There is a lot of fuzziness involved (as with anything dealing with money) but the requirements are pretty simple, they MUST run. More info on this can be found here: http://www.dwt.com/LearningCenter/portalresource/12-07_PoliticalBroadcasting(Guide)

Thanks. My DW is a media buyer. I thought that she said they are charged the highest rates. I must have listened backwards (Or been on Auto-Nod). ;)

Dare I ask again?

I'm confused. I thought you couldn't talk politics on the Dis, yet, there's an ad for NY State Comptroller on the site:confused3.

I work in TV (shocking that TVGUY works in TV). Yep, they pay lowest rate, and we can't refuse to sell them time. But they're even buying 3:30 am
Yes, I am sick of the ads.....but because of these ads, the station is making money, which means we're having a Christmas party for the first time in 3 years.

Me too!

I got so sick of hearing the ads on the radio that I'm listening exclusively to cds until it's all over. It's like how on Charlie Brown cartoons the grownups always just sounded like "wah wahwahwah-wah wah wahwahwah? wah!" :rotfl:

And don't even get me started on the signs everywhere. It'll be so nice to be able to drive someplace without seeing 145262373838 signs on every corner.

I am kind of enjoying it. ;)

I'm with you! I always enjoy elections, even when I'm on the losing side (and given that I am a member of the third largest party in the UK, that's pretty much always ;) )
