Elderly Dog advice (sad, be warned) update post #21

Again, thanks for all the responses. We did put Britney to sleep this morning. DH took her to the vet this morning (ours wouldn't come to our house last night and I guess we were kinda hoping she'd wake up better this morning) and she's now buried in our backyard right by a nice big tree. Though it is sad, we realize it was the right thing to do for her. She lived a great life with a loving family.

I realize it will be sad for our boys (5 & 2), but I imagine it'll be quite an adjustment for our 8 year old Lab too. She's known Britney since the day we brought her home as a puppy.

thanks again and hug your pets today!!

:grouphug: I know this was a hard decision, but like you said, I think you made the right decision.

Pea-n-Me: That poem was so nice. It made me cry.

I am a HUGE animals person. I am so sorry, but just know she is doing so much better now. She knows it was best for her and she appreciates the decision you made. Only a consierate person would have problems making that decision, but sitll make it because it is in the best interest of the animal.

Hugs to your family and your lab. I have two labs as well :thumbsup2

I am so sorry you are going thru the pain, it is hard as I know having put our Gretel girl to sleep last Thurday.......the ground is to frozen here to bury her at this time so we decided to cremate her and do it in the spring, putting her in the back yard, which she loved.

My thoughts go out to each of you who have lost a pet and are still grieving. May you find total comfort that they are now in Heaven playing with butterflies and can do so without pain and discomfort. :grouphug:

I am so sorry about your doggie but it does sound like the right decision was made. She is now at the Rainbow Bridge playing with all the other pets.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is never an easy thing to do. Give your other dog a lot of love. They feel their grief too.

So Sorry for your loss it is really hard sometimes to do the right thing. She knows you did it because you love her :grouphug:

I am so sorry for your lose.

I made the mistake when one of our dogs was terribly sick with a liver shunt. She had gotten very thin and was having sporatic seizures, eventually they were happening once a week. The vet told us that eventually a seizure would kill her and that we should put her to sleep because it would be a terrible death for both the dog and for whoever witnessed it.

Unfortunately, the worse thing happened, the dog slept on my daughters bed every night and the dog started to seizure. It lasted about 2 hours and at 2 o'clock in the morning. We held her until she passed and as the vet predicted it was a horrible thing to witness.

With small children in the house, you did the right thing, I wouldn't want a young child to witness it if they didn't have too....My daughter was a teenager and still it was very traumatic

My thoughts are with you.
