Planning a few day in DL after a convention in San Deigo, which ends. . . .May 5th. Sounds like a big day on the Disney calander. Should I be booking a room now? Will the park be packed? Should I be making tour ressies now?

My traveling partner has a bad back and can't walk long distances, does this for sure mean a DL hotel or are any of the offsites a really close walk? If so which would you recommend?

I'm not very helpful, but I know that there are many off-site hotels and motels that are closer to the entrances of DL and CA than the DL hotels. The problem is that the DL hotels are at the opposite end of DTD from the park entrances, while the off-site hotels have the benefit of being across the street. Also, if you don't mind using a shuttle, they will drop you off right at the main gates. The park entrances face each other across a courtyard. Also, I don't know if you need this information, but Grand Californian and Paradise Pier both have private entrances to CA near or in them, which lead to different places in the park.

Never having stayed at a hotel off Disney in DL I can not comment on the busses dropping off at the gate, but from what I can see the courtyard main entrance the only close transportation are the trams.

For the closest hotel on Disney, it would be the GC. YOu have a entrance to California Adventure and DL is about 5-10 min walk.

If this is an issue, I would suggest that you arrange for a wheelchair to be delivered for you use suring your stay. I have not done it in DL, but at WDW, I would call the hotel and get a name of a company that would rent wheelchairs (mother cannot walk long distance too) and call the company to rent one. The company would drop it off at the bell hop and when we leave we leave it at the bell hop. I would imagine DL hotels would have the something similar. Again i would suggest you call them, because they would have companies that know the hotel. It may not be the cheapest, but I find them competitive.

Hope this helps

Check out this link. There are many smaller motels and Inns that are as close or closer than 2 of the 3 Disney hotels. http://www.beachcalifornia.com/dlmp.html
The closest of these that continually get decent to great reviews are...
The Best Western Park Place Inn
The Desert Inn and Suites
The Park Inn
The Howard Johnson (a hair farther)
The Carousel Inn
Less expensive but not as well reviewed ar the Fairfield Inn, The Tropicana and the Best Western Anaheim Inn.
I nice place to stay is the Candy Cane Inn which is not indicated on the map but it is about a 7 minute walk to the parks and they have their own free shuttle. www.candycaneinn.net

I have to say that every trip I've made we've walked lots. If you stay @ the restort hotels you walk. Even the walk to the monarail (sp?) is quite a ways if you have difficulty c walking. I think the best way to do this is go slow. Take breaks as needed. Most of all enjoy. By the way the GF is closest to monarail. Have a great trip:cool:
