Any effect on DVC? Discuss....

I hope it will bring more focus to the Disney vacation destinations instead of the other "Disney ventures". Hope to see improvement in the theme parks, their quality and variety. Maybe a "new thrill ride park"...and another off-site DVC.

The effects of Michael's retirement all depends on the actions of the board in picking a new CEO.

It's effect on DVC will probably be minimal. DVD will keep building resorts so long as there are fanatics like us who will keep buying.

Unfortunately, I'm sure Eisner and his goonies have a pretty good idea as to who will be taking over. Doesn't exactly put the most faith in me, but at least Eisner will be gone!

I remember, way way back in the seventh grade when the news broke out that the school bully was not coming back. Some teachers actually told us in homeroom. (they knew his problems)
This one kid, jumped up and started singing down the hall, "Ding Dong the witch is dead...." Other students joined in... It was very funny at the time. Why did this news bring back that memory?

I know many don't like Eisner, but isn't he the one that has helped guide WDW to what it is today? New parks, rides, resorts, etc.?

Weren't the biggest Disney movie moneymakers done during his time?

Hasn't DVC been developed during his time?

In his 20+ years, I see lots of positives, what were the big negatives? Not looking for a debate, just wanted to know why he is so disliked?

I don't see a big effect on DVC per se. My understanding is that it's very profitable and they'll keep building and selling as long as people keep buying!

The effect may be on our vacation experience. We'll have to wait and see what a new CEO's outlook on the parks will be. And what the Board of Directors wants. You can have the most visionary, customer-oriented CEO in the world and if he/she is handcuffed in the decisions by immediate return on investment mentality, then probably what we'll see is more of the same.

If I had to guess, I'd say we'll see a change in the style of managment more than the substance.

But hey, that opinion and 50 cents will get you a USA Today!

Assuming you are sincere, you may want to go check out savedisney.com. The basic plot is Michael was ok when Frank Wells reigned him in, but since Frank died, Michael's been a detriment, especially to the historical Disney that we care about.

But go to the save disney site to get the whole story of the dissenting side.

I think those were more under Jeff. Katz. (abb.). He was fired by Eisner. He went on to start Dreamworks.

Then Pixar which is Steve Jobs. Eisner may or may not have lost a deal with them too.

IMHO, most of us are dedicated to the theme park, film and animation brand of Disney. Disney has gone way beyond that. I do not know if that is good or bad for stock holders, I am not one.

Be careful what you wish for...

As far as I can see, we all still enjoy WDW ( we spend enough time there based on the postings to this board ) so I'm not sure a change at the CEO position will affect that for good or bad. Times change, and even Walt wouldn't run the company the same way today as he did in the 60's. I'm not sure how I feel about a change, ( the backup quarterback is always the most popular player on the team with the fans, but fans generally have no clue about what it takes to create a successful team ) but I guess we'll see what happens in 2006. One thing I'm pretty sure of is that prices won't go down, no matter who chairs the Walt Disney Company meetings.

I haven't been to Save Disney yet today but I imagine Roy and Stan have a big plan to get back in the game after Mikey leaves. I am a fence sitter on this one. Eisner has done some good, some not so good during his tenure....Lacee

What does Bob Iger know about theme parks? He came through the ranks of ABC. Maybe he'll restore ABC to former glory, but for the rest of the operation, I'm not convinced he'll bring any new ideas to the post that put WDW into some new exiting growth phase.

For the big guy to step down, more times than not, is because he is losing power.

I agree that Pressler is a puke inducing thought, but Iger knows the biz (and Disney) and his real character will never be known until he is the big cheese, so I say give him a chance...Also, what does Iger know about theme parks? Well, (1) he's been with Disney for a LONG time and (2) It isn't real relevent as Disney is MUCH more than theme parks...
