Anyone have exp dealing with severe egg/oat/peanut allergies at disney?Which restaurants did you find the best/most accomodating?

My son has peanut/treenut/shellfish allergies (and type 1 diabetes) and I think the FAQ for this board is a good place to look for more information and links to threads on restaurant ideas.

I can tell you some of our favs but really it ALL comes down to what chef you get the night you go - most chefs are awesome but there are a few crappy ones. So it is possible for you to get a bad chef and a usually great place.

Places where we've consistently had a great experience: Le Cellier, Crystal Palace, Teppan Edo, Biergarten. T-Rex and DtD was awesome - only been there once though. We've done many other restaurants there with no problems but we've only been once. I really did NOT like the restaurant in Mexico. Most people recommend avoiding the China and Morocco restaurant in Epcot.

If Chef TJ is still at O'Hana's and you can go there on a night when he is working - he is the BEST chef on the WDW property for those with food allergies. He is amazing.

We recently had a week full of greta dining experiences with my milk, egg, and peanut allergic DS. We enjoyed them all. Chef TJ at Ohana's was definitely the best. Other places, all of which were excellent about the food allergies, included Liberty Tree Tavern, Chef Mickey's (breakfast), Whispering Canyon Cafe, Biergarten, and Le Cellier. I would look at the menus and look for ones that have food most appealing to your child. And if you haven't already done so, be sure to contact Special Diets and have the form filled out ahead of your trip.

Chef Helene at Mama Melrose is phenomenal. My kids love her. We've had good service everywhere. The chef at H&V was very good, too. I think his name was Ricardo. Most of the chefs are very nice and helpful. The only stinker we've had was at Rose & Crown. The kids got safe meals, but the guy's personality was less than pleasing.

Ah - that goes back to my point that you can get different experiences depending on what chef you pull. We ate at R&C once and had a very pleasant experience - the chef came out and talked to my son (who was little then - maybe 5 yrs old) and made him something that wasn't on the menu (grilled cheese - not exactly rocket science but still) and she also made the same for my other son at his request - without blinking an eye.

Chef Mickey's is another place - we had a bad experience there but others have reported it was great. Then another trip we actually had a chef from Chef Mickey's come over to the counter serv at the CR both mornings of our two day stay and make my son's breakfast to order so it was safe. She was great. If I could get her I'd go back to Chef Mickey's - LOL!

Chef TJ is worth planning your entire vacation around - IMHO. He is just that wonderful...:thumbsup2
