Cabin crew dispute - latest information

Last reviewed: 11:30, Monday 24 January 2011 (UK time)

We are disappointed that Unite, the trade union for British Airways (BA) cabin crew, has announced that the ballot has resulted in a vote approving strike action.

Unite has not set any dates for the proposed strike action.

We have strong contingency plans in place and should industrial action take place:

· We will operate a normal schedule at London Gatwick and London City

· We aim to fly 100 per cent of our longhaul flights to and from London Heathrow

· We aim to fly the majority of our shorthaul flights to and from London Heathrow

As all our flights are operating as normal at the moment, any changes to bookings are subject to the original fare rules.

Unite must give seven days’ notice of any proposed strike action.

Are you flying from Gatwick? If so even if crew do strike it will have no effect on Gatwick flights what-so-ever. The LGW crew are on (and very happy with) seperate contracts.

Oooooh that is fab news for us. Thank you!

Yes we are flying from LGW. Aren't they in the same union though? Do they not have to go out in solidarity?

I really thought long and hard about booking with BA for this very reason. I wonder how many simply don't consider them because of it?

Oh believe me been there, done that, worried myself sick about strikes and then flew during the last set of strikes.

Let me tell you Gatwick BA crew are FANTASTIC and going by all recent strike activity all the Gatwick flights will not be effected even in the slightest.

BA run a great service from LGW -MCO always our preference and like I said the crew are fab!

Do not worry about it at all.

I would hesitate about booking BA from Heathrow but Gatwick not at all.

OMG!!!! - I literally felt sick reading the first post then...

I'm flying from Gatwick on June 19th - let's hope that what they say about a full service from LGW is correct...

I too had to think long and hard about booking with BA. But it was the only feasible option at the end of the day. There was an almost £300 difference between Virgin and BA for the dates I needed, and so BA it had to be.

I can't believe this

It looks like you're okay, hon. :goodvibes With a £300 difference? I think you would have been more angry with yourself if you had paid that and then found there was actually no problem at all. Besides, by the time we have all wished you on your way with copious amounts of pixie dust, nothing's going to stop you ;)

Again, if you are flying from Gatwick in the event of strike action you will be unaffected.

Let's hope so :goodvibes and like you said, nothing is gonna stop me! Maybe I should start walking now? :rotfl:

And me ;)

Happier to pay the extra for a Virgin Flight than risk not flying at all with BA. The majority of families save and save and save for their Disney Holiday and it guts me to the core to think that all that planning and saving can be dashed without a seconds thought.

I'm probably not the best person to post in this thread. I have close family members that are serving in Afghanistan at present and although, believe it or not, they love their jobs and in their own words wouldnt swap places with anyone :confused3, it really p****S me right off when things like this happen. I'm ranting, sorry :flower3:

You'd have killer legs ;) - but possibly win an award for the person with the most band-aids on your feet in the history of mankind. How are your swimming skills?

I remember pricing up flights for this year's trip and BA came in with some fair prices via Heathrow. They were much cheaper than VA but still more than CO. I know I would have spent a year worrying though if I had booked with them.

I think most people save and save no matter where they are going now. For some, an annual holiday is a thing of the past in the current financial climate, which is even worse. Imagine saving for your only holiday in two or three years and then something like this happens. :sad2:

Well, we're booked with BA travelling from LHR to Miami on 24 June. It was a very good price and great flight times. I'm a little worried about the strikes but I'm obviously hoping for the best, particularly since they say that they are aiming to fly 100% of flights from LHR.

I can only quote this for effect.

I was in a (small) quandry last year when I was looking to book my flights with BA but was reassured when I found out Gatwick crews are on a completely different contracts (in fact I believe they are already on the contracts that the Heathrow crews are refusing to move to) and are therefore completely, totally and unaffected by these Unite strikes.

Relax and look forward to your holiday :)

This is exactly why I was worried about booking BA! But the price was just too good to turn down, hopefully it'll be alright from LGW then.
