EEK! Airfare climbing!

DH and I talked about it this afternoon and we are going to wait and see. I looked at Priceline but it just won't work for us this trip. If we had an extra day on each end JUST to travel then I would probably do it. But DS has to be at school on Friday, so we would have to put Saturday as our arrival. Through American we would fly out at 6:40 AM, through Priceline we might not fly out until 10 PM! Coming back we want to go in the afternoon, but that is when we would likely get the EARLY flight. Or if we chanced coming home on Sunday we might end up flying at 10 PM and not getting home until 3AM on a work/school day. I don't want to chance losing a whole day at the beginning and the end of our trip, and I want a day to rest before I go back to work. Of course if fares really skyrocket there is no telling what I might do! :rotfl2:

Yeah, I know what you mean. I don't really want to lose a day an extra vacation day just to travel, so I'm kind of assuming they would give me that 10:00 flight. ha ha. My luck and I'd get a great flight time!

WTH !! My continental flight is now up to $378 :crazy2: what are they smoking ???

My dates for June are now at $329 for my ideal flight times! :sad2: Good freakin' gravy! I am now crunching numbers to see if it's worthwhile staying an extra day.

They say travel is up and if this is supply an demand (plus a little push from expensive oil) then I could kick myself in the butt for not buying earlier. I am so used to getting MSP-MCO for less than $220, but then I have never travelled in late June. I am stupid.

Wow! It really is going up! I booked our flights for June the first of February from Dallas to MCO for $210 each. I just checked again for curiosity and they are up to $299 each.

I just checked our flights again and they are the same price they were last week. When I looked at the seating charts the planes are still EMPTY, so I don't see them hiking up the fares just yet. I will keep a close eye on it.

Just realized yesterday that I was assuming DH's new job will be a M-F schedule, but it isn't. Here I have been debating between Friday night and Saturday morning to leave, but HELLO! DH may end up having to work on SATURDAY. He may also have to work on Sunday when we come back, so coming home from a week at WDW at 8:00 PM on Saturday wouldn't give him any time to rest!

Why is everything always so COMPLICATED? :confused3

Wow, after reading this thread I decided to check the prices on the Delta airfare that I booked on Tuesday from BOS to TPA for October. I paid $106 per ticket (x5 tickets). The same flights today are $175 per ticket. I saved $345 by purchasing them on Tuesday when the flights came out. I can't believe that I questioned buying them. We weren't sure that we wanted to fly to TPA instead of MCO, but no question now. DH is very impressed.

You might want to check out a site called ITA software. It is a real interesting site for finding good airfares. You can't make reservations at this site but once you have found a flight you can contact a travel agent or contact the airline yourself.
Good Luck :wave2:

I noticed a fare hike last week, but it seemed to recede this week. It did force me to go look at other carriers though. What I ended up doing was booking a one-way flight on Airtran for $79+tax --> $90, then went with another one-way Delta ticket for $93 to get home. That gave me a non-stop Airtran flight at the time I wanted (2:19PM on Friday afternoon), and a Delta flight home - so I can use Magical Express at my hotel for the trip home (I have read that Airtran and others are now partnering for ME, but I'm not sure I believe it yet). Not cheap cheap - I was kind of hoping to pay $150 a ticket - but the quest was starting to become too much of a distraction. Now it's done, and I feel pretty good about what I'm getting.

I'm sorry to all those who haven't booked yet and have to feel the wrath of fare increases but in a way, I'm feeling very smug about this. I booked our July trip last August when we got engaged. My soon-to-be MIL thought I was crazy and told me how much money I was wasting because surely there would be a seat sale closer to the date. She lectured me on how I should have waited. (She obviously has never travelled to WDW before.) I tried to explain to her that seats book up early from Halifax, NS, Canada. Now, I can go to her with the price that we would have paid if we waited, like she suggested. I know, I know...nasty. I didn't say this was a good thing but it sure makes me feel good. Thanks for letting me share my story.

Good for you Ali! Now she will see the wisdom her new daughter-in-law has!

My tickets have gone up another $10 each. What started at $632 has now managed to climb to $692. But we still don't know for sure what our dates are, which means the prices can still jump another $80 apiece and I will still be better off than buying them and changing them. It is maddening to watch the prices go higher and higher.

I got the e-mail about Air Tran's sale. I bought tickets a couple weeks ago for $201 each (PIT/MCO). They are now over $600 each! Yikes! Business class only on the way back. USAir for the same dates jumped from $216 to $245.

Song prices went up yesterday also!!! In some cases it was just $5 but more in others. I was going to try to change my flight from 3:15 to 11:56 the next day in order to avoid those afternoon thunderstorms in June, but think I'll stick with what I have.
