OP here.
We went back for our 3rd day today. We got to AK about 10 minutes later this morning (still prior to opening), and it probably cost us an hour in wait time. This time instead of having i.d. checkpoints at Asia and Dinoland, they sent everybody through Dinoland. We got into the i.d. line just before the Tarzan Rocks theater. Once it started moving, it went pretty fast.
Once through the checkpoint, hubby sprinted off for fast passes while I got in the standby line, then he ducked under the rope to join me (by the way, no one, including the CMs, seemed to mind this). Today it took us about 30 minutes to go through the standby line, as opposed to 5 minutes first thing Friday and Saturday, but we really didn't mind, as it gave us a chance to take in more of the fabulously detailed queue area.
Our fastpasses today were for 12:45 - 1:45, even though we got them as fast as we possibly could. This time they were just handing out fast passes from stacks being held by CMs, rather than having people get them from the machines (later, though, the machines were in use). The mom of the family in front of us in line had done the same thing as hubby, and hers were for 10:30 - 11:30, so I guess the CMs handing them out had different times, and what you got was the luck of the draw.
Today, hubby and I chose to wait a little longer for the front row both times - wow, what a difference! We thought the ride was much smoother, more fun, and with a better view of the special effects up there.
We left the park after our second ride, at about 1:30. FPs were still being given out, but they were for the 5:00 hour, and I would guess they probably didn't last much longer than that. The park in general felt much less crowded. We enjoyed our morning there very much.
