EE - Is the 80 foot plunge

in the dark or out in the daylight?

Gotta admit I'm a big chicken....believe it or not, I don't mind it in the dark, but in broad daylight??!!

Don't want this thread to be a spoiler, but I need to know!

it begins in the cave, but the drop itself is outdoors. it's over very quickly.

It's outside, but it goes very quickly. If you close your eyes, its over in about a second or two. It's a very fun drop though. It's not bad at all.

the drop isn't bad because it curves at the bottom so I thought it was less intense than the splash mountain drop. The ride is great!!! My 5 year old loved it!!! Believe it or not I thought the front was more intense than the back row.

I agree. It's like Splash Mountain but not a severe but longer. I hate roller coasters and this one didn't bother me at all. In fact, I didn't even scream. I think I whooped a bit, even.

So it doesn't go upside down, just backwards?

It doesn't go upside down, however - to me it felt almost like it was when we were going backwards in the dark. At that moment, my stomach was doing flip-flops. I am prone to motion sickness and had to sit down a while after the ride to recover. I was glad I rode, but won't again for that reason. The ride, for me, was fantastic except for that one moment.

Oh no Daisy2000, thats me all the way. But I want to try this ride so bad, but the backwards thing, I just don't know.. can you tell me how long that part lasts? Was it really that bad?

The backwards part isn't very long at all. Most of the time I didn't know whether I was going backwards or forwards! I don't do RnkRC. But, I was fine with this the second time around.

The third time I rode it on 2/16/06, I specifically counted the backwards portion out of curiosity because it does seem to be an amazingly long time. It was a full? 19 to 20 seconds. I put "full?" because I don't remember if I was saying one-thousand-and-one, one-thousand-and-two, etc. or one, two, etc. but I remember I wanted to count "true" seconds.

EE looks so intense to me, I want to try it but I'm scared at the same time. I'm the biggest wuss when it comes to roller coasters (I've never rode any at Disney at all), because I have really serve asthma I'm scared I will get on a ride, freak out, and have an attack.

What is the ride like? Is there a lot of dips, twists, turns, drops, etc?

I saw the video footage someone had posted online and it looked fun, but there was a whole lotta stuff goin' on in the dark! In fact, when we saw the train go backwards and the people laughing, all of a sudden you hear a unison scream!!
I know it does go down a hill, but does the hill go down backwards in the dark?

I don't know if anyone remembers Lightin'Loops that was at Great Adventure in New Jersey back in the '80's. But I did not like roller coasters and my father convinced me to get on. There were no lines, so we walked up the steps and onto the coaster. We go down the hill around the loop and up another hill. We stopped and I said to my dad, that wasn't so bad and then I looked around and didn't see any attendants to get us out of the car. I said, hey dad, aren't we getting off? And in his SUPER EVIL DAD VOICE he growls, NOW WE'RE GOING BACKWARDS!!!HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ever since then, I just cannot tolerate BACKWARDS!! When I was getting off the ride, the attendant said to me, are you okay? Of course, Dad was still laughing his evil laugh, telling me I was looking really green...

Anyway, please spill all the nasty details because I will be required to ride this new attraction!

Well, "complete" might be stretching it a bit but yes, that part is all inside the "mountain".

Is there a lot of dips, twists, turns, drops, etc?

Yes but NO barrel rolls, cobra rolls, heartline flips, boomerangs, corkscrews, bowties, or helixes, and not much, if any, airtime that I remember.

Sorry but I didn't ride it enough to memorize the exact layout of the track (nor do I want to put forth any spoilers for anyone). On a "scary thrill" scale, it's a little above Space Mountain but not much but it does some cool things technologically that I've never seen done before on a coaster (doesn't mean they don't exist somewhere else -- just that I've never seen them).

Are you folks all sure you want to know details? Maybe it's just me but it was really neat being totally surprised by the fact that there was any part of the ride where it went backwards.

When I got off my first ride and dragged my DW on for her first ride (my second), I purposefully told her that there were no inversions, that she needed to ride it, that it was a must do, but that I couldn't tell her why.

I feel bad that so many folks already know about some of the features of this ride and try to be careful not to bring anything up in my posts unless it's been brought up already.

I would rather know what to expect than to get on it and have something just thrown at me, actually unless I know what to expect I probably will not ride it. Things are scary to me unless I understand them, and therefore that's why I like to know things about the rides. I understand how you don't want to ruin it for others though and posting things about the ride in such a public way may do that. So I totally understand where you are coming from.

Just a question, is the ride to scary for a child? My niece wants to ride some roller coasters, but I don't know if EE or any of the other coasters would be to scary for her.

I'm sure eventually all details about EE will get posted. I think I would ask the CM at the entrance to EE, or any ride at Disney you're concerned about for that matter, to get exact details (though I know that knowing in advance helps with planning out your day). A real plus I saw at WDW two weeks ago was that every ride seemed to have a CM at the entrance -- fast pass or not -- to direct stroller parking, check fast passes, answer questions, etc.

Your mileage may vary but here's how it was for my family: DSnearly5 -- didn't even try it with him, I think he could do most coasters though he would be afraid but I'm not sure he could do the dark and the Yeti sighting. DS8 -- didn't ride and I didn't push him to but I think he could have handled it. DS10 -- didn't ride our first ride of the day but talked him into riding our second ride (same one I dragged DW on) and he ended up riding it a second time later in the day though he doesn't "love" it. DS13 -- hands down his favorite ride at WDW, it was at his urging that we rode it a third time that day.

Thanks for the info, my niece is 7 and I guess we'll see when we get there if she wants to ride it or not, I think I may be more scared about it than her.
