Dawn was making a point. This story has been out there (internet/tabloids) for almost a year now, yet the "legit" media hasn't even touched it.

Whats more tacky...The politician doing the sleazy acts? The reporters following the politician doing the sleazy acts and reporting it? The reporters knowing the politician is involved in sleaze, and looking the other way, why he dupes the American public?


I could be that the Legit press suppressed this story due to Mrs. Edwards illness.

I understand what you're saying. However, I think this could be argued about any political story--both sides constantly whine that the press is picking on them and giving the other side a free ride. And we know that can't possibly be true.

By playing the "if it had been MY candidate" game, aren't we taking away from the issue at hand? Aren't we reducing the important issue to the old children's game of "you like him better than you like me"?

This is why I wish we could jump ahead to January 20, 2009.

If it was just the affair, and it was over years ago, thats one thing. But I tend to believe, based on what I read that the child is his. And that baby is only 6 months old.

And why would he go meet this woman in a LA hotel in the middle of the night a few weeks ago, if indeed it was all over 2 years ago.

His explaination of what happend leaves way more questions than has been answered. He gave a really bad excuse.

Exactly! JE confessed to his wife in 2006 and was supposedly sorry and moving on. Now, if he has moved on, why is he still seeing this woman in 2008 in her hotel room at 2a.m.?????

I think if he really regretted his actions, JE would have stayed far away from Hunter.

I feel especially sorry for his children. They are truly innocent in all of this. They should be spending this precious time enjoying life with their mother. Instead, they are being forced to deal with their father's infidelity.

on another thread, Newt Gingrich was lister multiple times as a 'dream' candidate for President. while he was down and dirty on bill Clinton's down and dirties....he was in the middle of an adulterous affair. I believe the 'adulteree' became his third wife. He had issues with his first marriage as well - since he married his second wife just a few months after hsi divorce, ya wanna bet what affair was going on when/ The wife asserts that she was pushed for terms of divorce while she was hospitalized.

But seriously, going after clinton when your own sexcapades are waiting to be uncovered? talk about major hypocrisy!

Then there is the serial adulterer Rudy Giuliani......his last ex wife he dumped for his mistress - she found out during a newscast. wasn't he named man of the year soon therafter?

There is a trail of cheated on spouses in politics. I don't excuse it - i do think it is scummy. Not pond scummy, but the scum that builds up on the edge of the toilet bowl that hasn't been cleaned for months. But I have to leave it at a family issue and pay more attention to how they will serve me - if I am their constituent.

As he left the meeting, at 2:30 in the morning, he was confronted by reporters from the National Enquirer.

Edwards told ABC News he had not told his wife about the meeting in advance.

I respect his wife for working to save their marriage, but I would have a real problem with finding out that he met with the other woman secretly in the middle of the night and been in contact on other occasions (Quote: He said the meeting was not "the only contact" he had with Hunter since 2006 when he said he ended the affair. "There have been some other telephone contacts," ).

I'm sure he was planning on telling his wife all about it (I read somewhere that he said that he thought she had a right to know) and that the NE reporters that he ran into had nothing to do with his decision to tell her the next morning...

I feel terribly sorry for her and their children and wish her the best. I have no sympathy for him.

I don't know if it has been brought up before but Edwards is sure to be launched into an investigation over the payments sent to his mistress and her being hired and paid more then the job she was given in his campaign usually pays.

Not that I think it is an issue for McCain, but when has he made "Moral Character" a key issue for the campaign? I know that he is running on experience, foreign policy, his military credentials, energy and economy, but I don't recall "Moral Character".
