When your deluxe resort that you bought into is no longer deluxe.

There is a complete conflict of interest at mixed dvc/Disney resorts and it is in Disney's best interest to cut labor and offerings to trim costs, but it is in DVCs best interest to maintain if not ramp up these same things.

That's a major piece that was never even considered when advertising 30 years ago.

Will Disney completely eliminate the things that make the resorts "magical"? Probably not, but it is in their best interest to do so if it doesn't hurt the bottom line.

I guess for us what made it deluxe was the locations and that can never change.

Let's be honest, Disney "Deluxe" resorts are only deluxe because they're located in WDW. They're not really deluxe if we consider the ammenities.

Even from Disney's own FAQ

So while the word "luxurious" may be subjective from person to person and what it may include or consist of from room appointments - there are only a few Disney Deluxe resorts that I would place in this category - and thats being generous.

True, but those things are not something DVC can change on us…That was the aspect I was referring to in response to the initial post.

Disney certainly can change the things they offer, like entertainment and activities at the resorts, but doing those things hurt their ability to retain cash guests.

IMO, that alone will keep the deluxe resorts different than the moderate or values, at least for a long time coming.

Grand no longer has a pirate cruise, sea racers, a childcare center, the tea party with Alice, the orchestra.

Poly no longer has an arcade, the drop off center, the character experience for kids, the luau, sea raycer rentals. Poolside Activities were gutted. Campfire and movies were chopped at both.

These are the premiere hotels and they have been made much less deluxe because Disney feels its a better for the bottom line.

Again these things may mean nothing to many but they are things that set grand and poly as truly deluxe.

For sure, just saying that I interpreted the comment about changing the resort to DVC and that they could do something that alter the rooms if what we bought.

I am not sure about perks, but charging people to park onsite was never a good idea for anyone. What I'm looking for are free EV chargers.

Free use of the lobby, the pools, the parking lot and other common areas of the resort are not perks. Disney decided to have cash guests pay for something that was always free just because they thought they could pocket the extra money. It has nothing to do with us. Free parking at the resort was one of those things that differentiated the Disney experience: sure it's costly, but then you're treated as a valued guest. During Chapek's reign of terror and nickel and diming, all that counted was the bottom line. I'm simply glad they've reversed an awful decision, even if I've never been impacted. Now, Josh, please have a look at free FP please.

But it's true that now maybe point rental rates may go down because this is not a saving that a renter can have compared to the cash rate, unless rack rates increase to compensate.

Wasn't the parking charge under Iger's original reign?

Yeah...well...it seems like half the threads on the DIS are people loving to bash Disney, and half are full of Disney apologists. I, for one, haven't figured out which is which...or why. Maybe it's just random, depending on the week. In the case of this thread, it seems to me that the apologists are out if force, and are mad at me for daring to suggest that Disney offer us more...

If that's all you see, then you're missing the point. My frustration was always with the premise that "Disney gave a perk to some other group so we deserve something additional, too!"

Within hours of this post it was revealed that DVC members will have a preview opportunity for the Tron coaster. And a few days later we got the Moonlight Magic schedule for 2023. I bet there are a lot of non-members (or ineligible members) who would be THRILLED to have access to perks like that.

What are YOUR ideas for perks that DVC could realistically add for owners? If you want it to be a meaningful discussion, I'd suggest avoiding 3 things:

1) It can't be anything too expensive. We aren't getting free food or weekly Moonlight Magic events or lounges in every park.
2) It can't be anything that requires costly infrastructure. They aren't reviving DME or DDP exclusively for DVC members, or building separate attraction / transportation queues.
3) It can't be anything that takes away from other guests. They aren't giving DVC members 70 day ADRs or preferred Genie access, because those things detract from the experience of day guests / hotel guests paying thousands for their visits.

Okay, well first of all, Moonlight Magic and Tron previews don't really cater to DVC owners who live far away and don't go for multiple weekends every year. So those are worthless to many or us.

Second, I already suggested a perk earlier in this thread that fits all of your criteria: Regular ticket discounts for those of us that can't use DVC-discounted AP tickets. Clearly, you didn't read all my posts.

I actually dislike the term apologist. I think this is a case of erroneous assumptions that if someone doesn't agree with you it means they'll defend Disney to the death. I'm often a practical person with respects to Disney. But just because I disagree with a poster doesn't mean I dislike Disney or that I think Disney can do no wrong. It's because I don't agree with them as I am neither a person who loathes Disney nor a person who thinks Disney can do no wrong. With all due respect you've now mentioned multiple times how posters are mad at you, that might be clouding how you're approaching conversations.

I think posters actually have a point about the theming of the the hotel rooms with respect to DVC although I understand it's just a modern adjustment and not everyone is upset over them. Removal of things related to deluxe resorts I can understand the viewpoint there but over time companies do these things. You won't necessarily always have the same entertainment available for decades and decades.

In that respects I would disagree with you. I paid attention a lot for the Guardians preview as we would be down there during that time. I was actually able to do the preview for DVC as it didn't require all guests attached to the preview (since you could have X amount of guests with you) to be DVC members like the AP previews did (which is a perk IMO for DVC).

Absolutely 100% people come from all over for both the moonlight magic and the previews. People make special trips for them. In fact my DISer friend who has an AP and DVC immediately said she was contemplating making a trip for Tron.

Some of that relates to how the previews work. For example for the DVC one you didn't need to secure a park reservation for it, one came with it for Epcot and was added to the DVC member's profile. So it made it easier to come in for just that trip.

I don't get why folks with EVs expect others to pay for Chargers. I want free gas for my SD PU!!!
