Edible arrangement basket for a sympathy

Are there religious practices that don't traditionally do flowers? I'm ignorant in that area. My first thought was that the fruit basket would be fine as a food gift but IN ADDITION to traditional flowers, but from my background flowers are an important part of the ritual. I'm curious now as to what practices don't do flowers.

I don't know what services would not allow flowers but I generally do not send them unless it is for very close family. As much as I love flowers I think that many times there are just too many. WHen my dad passed away there were so many flowers that the smell stayed with me for what seemed to be forever.

My dad died in November. We received one. It was lovely and appreciated.
That being said..it's also difficult to store. I mean they look nice..but you if you don't eat it right away, you do have to store it, which means taking it apart. Wasn't a big deal for us..as it went to my mom's house, and we kind of distributed it to everyone to take home, as she didn't have room in her fridge to store it in it's original container.

My dad died 3 years ago today. One family we'd known forever sent an Edible Arrangement to the house and it was a big hit. Of course, my father grew beautiful flowers in the back yard and loved going to the farmer's market for fresh fruit, so it was also a beautiful tribute in addition to being a welcome snack as we dealt with all the details of getting everybody together and planning the funeral. I really couldn't tell you about the flowers at the funeral home or who sent them, but I remember the Edible Arrangement and the friends who were kind enough to send it.

It is really something that needs to be eaten right away. Has to be refrigerated, so takes up room.

I would send or prepare a regular fruit basket of assorted fruits that doesn't require a lot of extra work.
