ECV's (?)

I know that you can rent a regular wheelchair (the ones you push) for a week. Can you rent the electric wheelchair for a week? In other words, can you take it back to the hotel with you. My mom hasn't gone to Disney in 2 years because she cannot walk far due to knee surgeries. She has trouble walking to and from the buses and around the resort. I was just wondering if you can rent an ECV for the week and keep it with you at all times. Thanks for any info!!

The ones in Parks stay in the parks.

I would also suggest that because of mobility issues she should rent an ECV
(Electric scooter) from an offsite company.
I have limited mobility and have rented mine from Care Medical (800-741-2282) and Walker Mobility (888-726-6837) in the past. I would recommend either one. The cost is about $30 a day. The ones at the parks cost $35 a day and are bigger and have 4 wheels kinda like a golf cart. They are much harder to steer and to control.

If she rents from an offsite rental they will deliver the EVC to bell services at the resort. She can use it to go to the pool, and get around the resort as well as the bus stop.

Almost all the Disney buses are accessible. I love using my EVC it gives me more independence and helps keep my pain to a minimum. If she decides to rent an EVC (which I highly recommend) she can practice using one at a local store such as Wal Mart or Target. Those are a little bigger than the rental ones but the practice will help.

Disney started mainstreaming most of their lines in the late 1990's. Those in WC/EVC will usually enter in the regular line. She will be able to stay in EVC until just before boarding most of the time.
Sometimes the WC/EVC may be pulled from the mainstream line part way down so they can board the ride in an
accessible area. EVC's can't climb steps so sometimes they need to take an elevator. Or they may need to board a ride where the riders usually exit in case
they need an accessible vehicle or need the moving sidewalk slowed or stopped so they can board.

You can pickup a book for Guests with disabilities at Guest Services or you download a copy of the book which is posted on the disABILITIES board.

each time I took my Mom we rented an ECV from an outside company. The ones at Disney you can't take back to the resort or park jump with it.
I rented from scootaround 2 times the first time was awesome the second time I went through 3 ECV in 4 days. They contract the rentals out. meaning they are based in another start then contract your account to a wheelchair company that has a chair available. Well, I had so much trouble April 2005 I will never use them again. I had to call the contracted company about 30 times (no lie) to fix the chair (over the phone) and to replace it 3 times. We finally got a working chair the last day of the trip. I DON'T recommend them.
I do however recommend care medical equipment. It was $200.00 for 7 days.

My cousin rents one every time we go WDW. She always rents from Walker Mobility. They deliver it to the hotel and pick it up. You can rent it for however many days you need it. The best thing is that you have 24 hours a day, so you can take it wherever you need to go. You also don't have to wait in line at the parks to rent theirs. Check out their website. I forgot the drop off and pick up from your resort. When we arrive it's there waiting for us. My Mom likes the little red scooter. we think it maneuvers better on and off the buses, trams and ferries it's also compact to fit in a room nicely.
if your Mom isn't use to driving one take her to the local Walmart, target whatever and have her practice.
ECV's are so nice to have while you are downtown disney or exploring the resorts. have a great time.
