ECVs in Standard Hotel Rooms

If my MIL decides to come to Disney with us this fall, we will need to rent her an ECV from an offsite company so that she can have it length of stay.

Will the ECV fit in a standard size hotel room? I'm not sure how large the ECV is but it seems as if it would be tight to keep it in the room overnight.

Should I request a handicap accessible room even if she doesn't need a roll-in shower, etc.?

ECVs fit fine in a standard room. You may have to move the furniture a bit but you will have no problems.

I have stayed in everything from value resorts up to deluxe. I have never had any problem parking an ECV out of the way in the room. However, I would advise bringing an about six foot extention cord with at least a 10 amp capacity just in case there is no really convenient outlet for the charger.

There is actually less floor space in an accessible room than a regular room at any of the resorts so less space for an ECV. The rooms are all the same square footage but the accessible rooms have a larger bathroom to accomodate the roll in shower and space next to the toilet. This larger bathroom takes up space and leaves less space in the "living" part of the rooms.---Kathy

Taht post shows a room with a tub instead of a roll in shower. The back of the tub is for sitting. Check FAQs for the number to contact for special reservations. They can get you a toilet seat riser, shower chair, and hand held shower mounted on the wall for example.

I would not get a roll in shower unless I really needed it to walk or roll into. They do take up space and I had very little space with one at Days Inn because the bathrooms are so much larger. You should be able to move a few items and fit the ECV fine. Hotel services will help you with any rearranging.

Another thing to keep in mind besides rearranging furniture is that Housekeeping could remove something for you if you need more room. Usually just moving around the table and chairs will do the trick, but if you need something gone, they can do that.

Also, most ECVs are going to be smaller than 32 inches wide and no longer than 4 feet wide (and most are smaller).
