We will be going to disney in November, this is our first vacation. My husband needs to rent an ECV. How does this work if we rent one at MK then go toMGM? Thank you for your help.

If he absolutely needs one, you may find the best thing is to rent one from off site. All of the places will deliver the ecv to your hotel and pick it up when you are done. Here is information from some of the sites DIS people have posted about renting from:
Care Medical:

Walker Mobility:

RANDY'S Mobility is in Kissimmee 407-892-4777

Colonial Medical

Also lists respiratory equipment

It is less expensive to rent one from outside WDW than to rent one each day from the parks. If you are staying at a WDW resort, almost all the buses are wheelchair/ecv accessible. All of the monorails are accessible. If you are staying off site, there are ecvs that will break down into manageable size/weight pieces to fit in a car trunk.
If you rent on a daily basis from the parks, the ecvs are first come, first served, so you may not get one. If you change parks, you can show your receipt and get another one without paying again (if there are any at that park).
I'm sure you will get more replies from posters who have rented ecvs, but this will get you started. If you think of more questions, feel free to post them.

Here is some more information (added to SueM's) which is something of a standard blurb:

I have used Walker a few times. They will ask for a credit card and charge it the day before arrival. They will deliver the ECV to your hotel bell services before your arrival and pick it up there after your departure. Their rates, especially for longer than a week, are much better than Disney's. Also, their scooters are much better.

You don't say if you are renting a car or what. If you are using a car for getting around, the ECVs break down into five pieces, the heaviest about 39 pounds. They take about a minute or so to take apart and about two minutes (once you are used to it) to put it together.

Another suggestion is find out your state's requirements for a termporary disabled hang tag and get the paper work and have your doctor sign off on it. The tag will allow you to use any of the handicap parking areas (which will be a necessity). Also, with the policy of charging for valet parking, with a handicap hang tag the fees will be waived. Also the valets will usually volunteer to assist in loading/unloading an ECV. In Virginia I printed the required form from the DMV website. When I took the completed form to the DMV Office it took less than 15 minutes from the time I walked in until I had my tag.

I hope this information helps.

Another thought about ECVs at WDW - I bring a light colored bath towel from the hotel with me to the park. I use the towel to cover the seat from the hot Florida sun. No matter what time of year the sun can be hot in FL!

agree, a towel is a great idea! i always take one that i won't mind too much if it disappears
or gets 'destroyed' by other assorted causes... never can tell! <g> have a ball!!
