We have never had the need to rent an ECV before so I don't know how to go about it. Where is the cheapest option?

My dd27 had a little incident after being in the sun all day on Thursday at a local waterpark. She has Neurocardiogenic Syncope and has been told to stay out of the heat by her Cardiologist as her body does not regulate her body temp and she has huge fluctuations with her blood pressure and heart rate. She got up Friday feeling sick but she went to work and was there 30 minutes when she passed out. Now she's worried about walking in the heat during our trip in October. We've always gone in late November or December so it would be cooler.

She mentioned yesterday that she thought she might need a ECV but she's worried about comments people might make because she "can" walk just fine and externally, you can't tell that anything is wrong with her. She said she would plan to park it and walk through the lines.

Any suggestions?

The sticky notes at the top of this forum will give you a whole lotta information on ECV rental. We usually just wait til we get to the hotel and ask the concierge for a recommendation.

One of them that I know of that is getting great reviews on this board and other boards that I go on to is Apple Scooters. They rent their scooters for about $150 a week. There is another one out there that is new and is a bit cheaper, but I can't remember the name of it.

It is not hard to rent from an off-site company. You reserve one ahead of time and they deliver it to the resort the day you specified. When your trip is over just leave the scooter with bell-services and they will pick it up from there.

By renting from an off-site company it is cheaper, you have the ability to always have the scooter with you, it is guaranteed that you have one.

Last December I rented from Apple Scooters. They were great. Good customer service. Don’t worry about others. Just go and have a great time.

I have always been happy with Randy's Mobility. Very good rates, very reliable, and they remember what models I do and don't like.

I am thinking about this too, I have MS somedays are better than others but I know that there is no way I will get round the parks even with my sticks, I was going to take my wheelchair, but worried that its a lot of work for my DH to push me around in it and I am still trying to work out if it will fit in our hire car with 4 adults and 3 cases. My worry is - how easy are they to use, I dont want to be responsible for ruinning someelses trip by running over their small child (however tempting that can be sometimes, esp with the school trip mobs:rotfl:)

ECV's are very easy to use and if you keep it at a slower speed and keep your eyes open to those around you, you should be just fine. If you can get to a store that has the ones to use, such as Walmart, you can practice with them. If not just take time at your resort to get used to the ECV before going into crowded areas.

Do not worry about other people opibnion, only you know what you need. And besides you will never see these people again but your loving family will always be there to supprt you. BTW I rented from Aplle and will do so again...100% happy.
