I find it hard to understand why WDW charges so much for an ECV.
I do thnk that on top of the admission price for the park that $30 is a bit steep
if you ask me. Especially if a person is with a disability, why do we pay
so much.???????????

I understand that making money is the name of the game but if a person has no choice
and has to rent an ECV than why so much. I think that $15 is plenty. These machines
paid for themselves many time over.

People with Disabilities always have to pay extra for many things.

It is not that I cannot afford the price of the rental but I do think it is too much and I
do wonder how people on a budget trip manage this expense.

I admire Disney for all the wonderful planning they did to make Disney accessible for
people who have disabilities. They did a great job and continue to do so in many ways.

Anyone else feel the same.

:(

They are still seen as a "convenience" when in reality they are a necessity for many people. :(

You will definitely find better prices if you rent from one of the off-site rental companies.

Disney does not view them as a necessary mobility device. Just look at the name ECV = electric CONVENIENCE vehicle. I have pointed out in numerous letters to Disney that the nomenclature is insulting to the disabled guest just by its inference but they continue to use that insulting term. Off site providers are somewhat less expensive but not that much. They do have the advantage of the scooter being available to you 24/7 instead of only in the park you rent it at.

I agree the prices are highway robbery. Even though WDW calls them "Convenience Vehicles", I think they do understand that ecvs people NEED them and will pay the high price.
I don't know if the ones from WDW ever drive off, but there was a TV story about ecvs at Mall of America a few years ago. A woman was complaining that the mall required a hold on a credit card to rent one. The mall indicated that they lost a few ecvs per month. I think their rental price was also $30 a day. Still too high, but at least in a mall you don't have to pay an entrance fee.

Sue,
I thik it would be near impossible for a guest to ride off with a WDW scooter. You have to go through a gate that is manned to leave the park and would be stopped.

 :( Well from the few comments I guess there are only a few of us who are
questioning the high price oc the ECV. Disney makes alot of money on alot of other things but I
still cannot understand the logic behind the price of the ECV. Escpecially when the ones who rent them
are obviuosly in need of it. We are not renting for fun!!!

Some people have said that you can rent these machines off site. Well how the do you get it to
the park????? I guess on the bus. Well the buses are a good service but the waiting time is
a klller. I would rather drive my car to the park and park in the handicapped spaces much better
for me personnally.

If you look at it as I said in the first message. The park already has cost $50.00 for the day
now add the rental another $30.00. Doesn't anyone think that $15.00 is enough!!!!!!!!!!

I need to know who to address this matter to at Disney Anyone Know.??????

You are not paying anymore than you would offsite. How much would it cost you to rent it at home if you needed it. About the same where I am. So the price as far as I can see is reasonable. You do have a choice. You can still rent a manual wheelchair for $7. Besides Disney still considers it a CONVENIENCE not a need. Guess they figure if you truely need to use one you will have your own.

while i have one at home, i am loath to let the airlines mangle it... so, i pay thru the nose at dis!! i've seen one too many mangled ones coming off airplanes!!

A side note about ECVs at WDW parks - the EVCs are not owned by Disney - Disney leases them for use by their guests.

On my most recent trip we got to the Studios about 2 p.m. on a Thursday afternoon & there were no EVCs available to rent. I walked & the people with me were very patient. At Fantasmic, the CM did let me & one other person sit in the handicapped section - I had my GAC. While talking to a CM manager type, they had an extra ECV I could use after the show. It really helped because afterwards we all went to see Osborne Lights.

I also learned about "crossover." If you are leaving one park & plan to go to another park later in the day, ask a CM to call the second park for a crossover. It helped a lot!
