Can an ECV be taken into any room or do you need an
handicapped accessible one. We are planning a trip in
October to the BCV-(DVC member), after reading many
of the post I am thinking of renting a ECV for the entire
trip for my DH. He has numerous health conditions, which
prevent him from walking any distance. I think it would
be great to have the use of a ECV in the Epcot resort area.

I guess what I really an trying to say is-do you take it
into your room at night or is left outside. We will be staying
in a studio and would prefer to stay in a upper level floor.

Thanks for any info.

That's a good question. We usually stay at OKW, which has plenty of manouvering room for an ecv or wheelchair even in the regular rooms. OKW rooms are bigger than the other resorts.

I would not count on driving an ecv around in your studio at BWV, but you will be able to pull it into the room and find a place to park it. Several disABILITIES Board posters have stayed in the BWV wheelchair accessible rooms. They posted that the rooms were bigger than the regular rooms and quite easy to move around in.

MAPAR28,

I have taken my own ECV into very many (non-accessible) motel rooms, though never at WDW (will be doing that for the first time a couple weeks from now!). Never stayed anywhere that I couldn't take the ECV into the room.
NEVER left it out in the hall--didn't want it stolen.

A normal room is just fine for the ECV. But there are sometimes some compromises to be made. 1) Most rooms are quite limited for empty floor space, so the ECV often makes walking around in the room to be tedious. But it has always fit in somehow, sometimes you just have to ooze past it to get to the bathroom. 2) You need to be able to reach the wall socket to recharge the ECV, so this limits your choices about where to park it. 3) You will need to have the proper outlet in the wall (3-pronged?). I have never had any problem with this; all my rooms had it. 4) Of course, if you are not on the first floor, you need to have an elevator. If there is no elevator, the hotel front desk will have some place you can leave it plugged in overnight--e.g., the bell captain's storage room or behind the front desk or in a secure closet near the front desk.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your replies, having the ECV
for the whole trip will make it much more enjoyable
for him and me (since I love to walk). This site is
great.

Thanks again, Mapar28

BWV have elevators. It has inside hallways, not the outside balconies like the moderate resorts have. You might want to request to have a room near the elevator so you don't have to do a lot of traveling just to get to the elevator. 3 prong outlets are standard for hotels (and newer homes), so that shouldn't be a problem either. Most of the time outlets will be behind furniture. That keeps them more out of reach for children.

I took an ECV into a BWV studio without any problem. I think the BCV studios are basically the same. You can't ride around the studio but you should have plenty of space to move around. Have a great trip.
