Doing a quick trip this coming weekend. I will need an ECV in Epcot. I read someplace that you can not use the EVc's in the rain. I can not find that post. Any info? Thinking that hurricane Danny might be hitting Florida by Saturday.
It depends on the ECV you rent. I would reach out to the vendor you typically rent from, and ask them what their policy is, and if their scooters are "water resistant" (they can get a little wet) or "waterproof" (they can get SOAKED).
Even though one vendor bills their ECVs as waterproof, I have not seen any answers about what they do to 'waterproof' them and they appear to be the same models of ECVs as other vendors use.
The one thing I have heard they provide is a shower cap type cover to put over the controls. That is the part that is most likely to get damaged in rain, so do whatever you can to avoid it getting wet; even a plastic bag from a shop or a small piece of plastic wrap can do the trick.
If you wear a poncho, make sure it doesn't get caught in the wheels.
A couple of things to be aware of:
- traction is not as good in the rain, so be careful stopping and starting, going up and down hills. Allow extra time for stopping.
- your feet will probably get wet both from rain and from splashing as you drive. The platform may be slippery if it gets wet.
- there will be many puddles - the ground is not as flat as it appears when not raining. Some of the puddles might be much deeper then they appear.
WDW has been bringing in new rental ECVs; I'm honestly not sure if they have a cane/crutch holder built in or not. If you need the cane to walk from the ECV to a ride vehicle (or attraction seat) then your best bet might be a folding or collapsible cane.
Otherwise, I would do as @gap2368 suggested, and leave it at First Aid until you are ready to leave the park for the day.
if you mean the ferry that goes from the Ticket and Transportation Center to MK, many people use it with ECVs every day.
It is wheelchair and ECV accessible.
There is a post in the disABILITIES FAQs thread about the different transportation options, which discusses accessibility.
You can find the disABILITIES FAQs thread near the top of this board or follow the link in my signature.
The first post in that thread is an index that tells which post has which info.
I wish I had as good an experience with Walker as you all. The scooter was available when we checked in. I had requested the scooter be fully charged as we had dining reservations at MK and planned to catch the parade and fireworks. By the time we got to the park the battery was already half used. We never got to enjoy our arrival day as planned, as the scooter battery died right after our dinner. We called the company and they said they would bring a replacement battery to the resort. We had to sit under the train station, plugged into an outlet waiting for enough charge to get us back to the bus and then the resort. Once there, we waited another hour and had to call again. They finally replaced the battery. Same problem the next day. So they replaced the scooter. The scooter was so beat up the tires had huge chunks out of it and it made for a choppy ride. After that trip, I'm looking for another scooter company.
