My family will be at Disney in April 2002. Discovery Cove is on our list of things to do. My question is: I am in an ECV and will not be doing the dolphin swim (more than likely, no water). Are there places, in the shade, to park while I video everyone else? And...are there snack bars, etc. for needed drinks and snacks outside of the supplied lunch? Are there different rates if you do not swim at all? Thanks for your help. :bounce: :bounce:

I don't recall too many shaded areas's near the dolphin lagoon but the time with the dolphins is relatively short. interaction with the group is spread out between families so if you have to sit in the sun, it shouldn;t be too long unless you want to film members of the group that are not related to you.

Snack bars are located relatively close to the dolphin lagoon so you can get a cold drink.

We were there in November and loved it - highlight of our trip.
I recommend staking a beach chair near the "resort pool - it is the one in front of the big waterfall - most people want to be near the dolphins but the other areas - snorkeling, stingrays are located right there and as an added bonus a snack bar is right there.

Discovery Cove is a must in my book. e-mail me with any other questions.

ECV - Does that stand for electric chair vehicle?

The walkways end up covered with sand as the day goes on. They will give you a special chair that has huge inner tube tires. This lets you go out onto the beach and along the pathways. Someone will have to push from behind but you can go anywhere you want.

They have umbrellas with all the beach chairs. For taping the dolphin swim, you'll be in the sun for half an hour, but you can put lotion on, it's supplied for free.

Yes, there is a discount if you're not doing the dolphin swim.

Go on their web site and register. Go thru the steps of setting up a reservation and you can get all the information you want about the pricing and available dates.

jstan,
I just wanted to say that you should check their website. They give great information on it. Per their website, the cost for the dolphin swim is $199 and the non-dolphin swim is $119 for the date you will be visiting.
Their webite also states "Discovery Cove can accomodate guests with disabilities who are able to maneuver themselves with limited assistance (or with the aid of a personal assistant) during their dolphin experience and in the various wading locations. Discovery Cove also offers specially designed outdoor wheelchairs with oversized tires for easy maneuvering on the beach."
I would give them a call to find out if they would be able to accomodate your needs so you can enjoy yourself.

I was told by a representative at Discovey Cove that the price for non-swimmers will be increasing in January. I think they said it will be $139
