Ectaco jetBook-Lite eBook Reader anyone?

Pottersmom, which cover do you have? I have Creekbed Maple in green. I love it. I actually bought it before I bought the Nook so that my Nook could go in it right away. :goodvibes

I also have a Bursa Bella bag for toting it when I don't want to carry a purse.

I love my nook, but definitely do research before you buy one. Many of them will allow you to borrow library books. And if your library doesn't have e-books (like mine), the Free Library of Philadelphia will issue library cards to out of state residents for a 15.00 fee. I'm currently reading my 10th library book, and love being able to read them on my nook.

If you have a Target near by, you can see the Kindle and Sony e-readers in person to compare them to the Nook, which is at B&N and Best Buy. And Kobo is at Borders.

I defintely recommend getting an e-reader as opposed to something like the Pandigital Novel or iPad, because they are stressful for your eyes when reading a long time on them.

Oh, I know I don't want an LCD screen! I didn't want an ereader to begin with because I thought they were all like reading off a computer, but I saw my friends kindle and it was just like reading a book, LOVED it.

Thanks for the sony info, I'll check on that one for a cheaper, good reader. I do only need one for reading, I don't care about any of the other features anything has, I just want it for reading, easier than carrying around a book.

I can't thank you all enough, it's given me so much knowledge of what to look for, you are all great! :cool1:

That's exactly why I wanted one and couldn't be happier with it. I didn't care about all the other features and didn't care about being able to buy books wirelessly. I found its really easy to download from the library to the computer and then to the reader, and I technologically challenged.

You know I thought I wouldn't care about the wireless service but now that I have it I have to say I really really love it (see my post in the I Love my Nook about my adventure last night).

I also have a cover from Oberon Design (Celtic Dogs- I get more compliments on it) and can I say it's been totally worth the price - my Nook has been dropped 4 times, from as high as 4 feet and it has not even got a ding. It's an amazingly great cover and well worth the price. They also make them for the Kindle and iPad. They used to carry them for the Sony and might still if you call them.

Wow, people get that hung up on reading library books on their ereaders? I have a Kindle and I take books out of the library as well. Amazon rocks at customer service and the Kindle works for me . IMO , kind if silly to drop over $100 on an ereader and then be so worried about reading books for free. Just my 2 cents.

I hope you got it. Newegg had it for $89 yesterday... I like mine. I paid $99 for mine (red) and $15 for a case from walmart. The case logic esc-100 case for the sony pocket reader fits it (you have to put it in upside down but since it is a hard clam shell case it works well). I use rechargeable batteries and find they work just fine. I am reading a John Grisham book now and am half way though it and still have more then half charge left on the batteries. So the battery life is very good. The LCD screen is nice. It refreshes quickly, clear as a bell and will reproduce a descent gray scale image. You can also put an SD card in it up to 32g but since the average ebook is less then 1meg that is more then you ever need. The current firmware does not let you view encrypted ePub files but the next firmware (due in a week or so) will do the encrypted ePub files that Barns and Noble uses as well as your local library. They do have a deal with B&N so that you can buy books there and put it on the reader. There are tons of ereader forums where owners post books so you do not need to buy any books if you wanted. I borrow from the local library... The upside is, very good battery life, good screen, unlimited storage capacity, good quality images (pdfs) plus it will read a load of different formats. So i would get it (i did) it isn't as fancy as the expensive ones but if all you want to do is read a book and not use it like a computer then the JBL will do just fine (plus it comes in several colors). I am very happy with mine and use it everyday.

I read a lot so being able to download books from the library was my #1 criteria for an ereader. Our library is really not convenient for me to get to. I find its so much easier to check the books out on my ereader. I can do it whenever I want, 24/7.

I have bought some books, but with the way I read I'd be spending on average $6.99-$9.99 per book and I go through 4-5 books a week (more if I'm on vacation). I'd rather spend that money going to WDW!

Well, for me, I'm not interested in spending money on something that's not reusable for myself. The ereader, reusable, the books, not so much. I don't reread books to make them worth $10 or more. Our libraries are kinda limited on choices, there are many things I have not been able to get. As PP said, my library is a bit difficult to get to, dragging my boys in just to pick up a book and drop it off (it's tiny and I have to have them brought from other "local" libraries) and interlibrary loan you get the book like 3 days! Crazy. I figured with this I can use other resources, like B&N free books, the other library in PA they said you can use with a $15 fee...when I'm done with the book, I'm done. I didn't lose $9.75 (that's if I sell it for .25 at a yard sale ).

I don't think the Overdrive Library system is silly at all. I usually read 3 to 5 books a week and buying all of those would get expensive really quick. This week I have check-out Nora Roberts The Search and the new Tana French novel lined up behind it. Those books would both be $12.99 to buy and I'm not likely to ever re-read either one of them.

As I said before, I prefer to read off my Kindle because I like that machine better than either the Sony or the nook - books that aren't available at my Library I nearly always buy at Amazon. If they release a new Kindle this fall with the upgraded e-Ink screen I'll probably be one of the first to hit that pre-order button. But I don't regret buying my Sony Pocket reader for the Library Overdrive system one bit. It has more than paid for itself in new release bestseller books that I've checked out.

I have a Sony Touch eReader that my DH got me for Christmas. I love it! I love the ability to buy from other sites besides the Sony eBook Store as well as the ability to borrow from the library. For me, why should I pay for a book when I can borrow it for 14-21 days from a library and return it. I choose to spend my money on books that I want to keep. I am not one to re-read books. I am exploring the possibility of a Nook in the future as well.

Having shared that, I think everyone has to realize that we all have ideas of what we want in an eReader. What is right for one may not be for another. That is why there are different options and manufacturers. No eReader is perfect and for everyone. Each has their pros and cons and those are different for everyone.
