GOOD Morning, Happy Cruisers!

Won't that make a lovely magnet? Thanks for posting it!

Cool enough to have the windows open last night - I'll bet the air conditioner breathed a sigh of relief!

Happy Day, all!

Our weather is still in the 90's. I get out at 6:30am to ride my bike so I can have a few minutes of lower temps. We will not really cool down until October. The grandkids start school in the next few weeks so I wish it would cool down for them but we are used to it. :cool1: Sherry

We have been near 100 here for the last week. Definitely the warmest we have been all summer. I may regret this decision but we are heading out to Disneyland today. I'm hoping the crowds won't be too crazy outside of Cars Land. I'm thnking we will head to Cars Land later this evening and if we have to wait in a 2 hr line, at least it will be cooler then.

How nice to live so near DL...I'm green! However, the weather is lovely here, so I can't complain too much. It's been a hot summer, but we live in the mountains and are generally cool and comfy (no AC necessary 99% of the time..the other 2%, we just suffer through it :goodvibes. Just 10 miles away (and definitely the nearby city where we do all of our shopping), it's much hotter as the elevation decreases.

As much as I keep saying I'd love to move to Austin to be near DD someday (esp. if grandbabies appear ::yes::), I don't do heat well. Grew up in TN but have lived in the great NE longer than I lived there...and I don't "glisten" like a lady, I "sweat" like a beast (maybe not that bad, but I don't look good with a red, flushed face, and running makeup!) :rotfl2:But there is no beating TX in the winter :thumbsup2.

I can't believe it's "back to school" time already. I don't miss those days ;), but I do miss having a little one around. Another reason I enjoy the DCL cruises....just love seeing the little ones' faces when they see the characters!

Well, Pat, you can always WINTER in Texas! My cousins from Vermont do, and they say it's lovely.

We still have 91 yr old MIL up here to "manage", and only DH is retired at this point, so it will be awhile...but we do try to visit Austin at some point during our colder months :cool1:. Last year was the first Christmas we've ever spent at home...always went to TN (or TX the past few years). Did the WBTA in Sept. with some of the TN gang and Jess, and planned TX trip the end of Feb., so decided to stay home in-between.

But someday, perhaps!

We have lived in the Austin area since 1979 and we love the area. It has a real "college town" feel to it even tho the college has over 50,000 students. We recently bought a second home in Houston where all 7 grandkids and their parents live. It has the feel and all the problems of a major city. But it also has the cutest 7 kids you have ever seen.

Good Evening Fellow Cruisers,
We set sail in 17 weeks less one day,
that is 118 sleeps!
Did you know?
The Canal transports 4 percent of world trade and 16 percent of total U.S.-borne trade. The United States uses the canal the most, followed by China, Japan, Chile and North Korea.

Sorry for the delay in my post. I was in NJ for the weekend. I thought the hotel would have free internet. Well it did not. We bought 24 hrs. worth, and I got up nice and early on Sunday morning, just to discover I did not know my DH's password for his computer, and I did not bring my computer and he was sound a sleep. By the time he got up, and we had breakie etc. etc. the 24 hrs was up. I got up this morning, and checked the bill and saw that we were charged for 2 days of internet. I was ready to complain, just to find out DH bought more internet time. Of course, I discovered we had internet after the bags were packed and we were headed out the door for our 12 hr. drive that should take 8 hrs. Anyway, we are home safe and I have internet access again.

I bought my supplies for FE, and I can get started. All I need is a design.

I started my cross stitch that I plan to bring on the cruise for our "knitting circle" time. It is a Thomas Kinkade, Cinderella Wishes Upon A Dream. I am projecting that it will take 120 hrs to complete I hope to be 75% complete by the time I get on the cruise. Okay, maybe 25% completed.

Have a great week everyone. The next few days will be hectic with my DD on her way to Egypt on Sunday.

I love that Kinkade picture along with the entire Disney series he did! I'll probably throw in my cross stitch too, maybe my latest crochet project--an afghan with Phantom of the Opera mask and rose. That might be a little too big to bring ;)

Where in Egypt is DD going? We had an Egyptian exchange student a few years ago. He now attends university there. Someday we will visit him!

At the risk of boring most of the people on this thread...:goodvibes

Yes, I love the "feel" of Austin, too. I never would have given it a second thought (Texas...Why would anyone want to go to Texas???? :confused3) until DD moved there to accept a job offer 4.5 yrs ago, but it's become our favorite city to visit (and not just to see her ). For a large city, it's surprisingly easy to navigate (ok, maybe not during rush hour on 35, but the rest of the time). I love the diversity of the people and the "funkiness" of the shops and restaurants. DH has a "Keep Austin Weird" mug that he uses all the time; he loves the music scene. We're the type that really like to get to know a city, so we enjoy getting Groupons, Living Social deals, etc. before a visit and introducing DD to places she would never find otherwise. She thinks we're a bit nuts at times, but that's nothing new! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

OK, back to regularly scheduled programming....:flower3:

North Korea....that's interesting. Wonder what they're importing/exporting and to where? I'll have to google :surfweb:

She will be teaching at a school in 6th of October, just outside of Cairo. She is going through numerous feelings right now. I keep on reminding her that it will be Christmas before she knows it and she will be home for 2 weeks. And that she will have a great time with her girlfriend that has been there for 2 years, and the other girls she has met on line. I am now starting to feel guilty going on the cruise instead of traveling to Egypt.

Sounds like a miserable weekend :rotfl2: but at least you're home and wired again. Can't wait to see your cross stitch - it sounds beautiful and you call me a 'romantic', but I love Thomas Kinkade.

. . . . She thinks we're a bit nuts at times, but that's nothing new! :lmao::lmao::lmao:
MOST kids think their parents are nuts, right?

I was stunned to see the number containers and container ships were at the west coast ports, like Manzanilla during last years WBPC. I'm thinking an investment in container companies like Matsen might be a profitable idea.

NO Guilt! She's going to have the time of her life learning and growing.

Yesterday, I went craft shopping with my friend and then came home to work on a 'trip journal' scrapbook that I think I will use on this trip. Does anyone out there scrapbook?

Happy Day, all!

Hopefully this is a correct fact. Did you find anything?
Not much, really. Yes, it's an accurate stat, but not much info specific to NK. I did receive an education on shipping routes, though :).

No need to feel guilty about cruising. DD will be just fine, I'm sure, and she'll be so busy learning her routine, meeting people, exploring, etc., she won't be homesick anyway, so soon. It will be harder on you than her :worried:. Is she coming home for Christmas?

I just posted this link to the fe gift ideas thread, but thought some of you might find it interesting.

Thanks, Linda. Really cute ideas!

Not only do i scrapbook Lindababe - I own a scrapbook shop! Mind you, since I opened the shop I have no time to scrapbook - bizarre, but true. I spend most of my time shopping for the shop!

Trying to decide what to do at each port - has anybody been to the Chacchoben ruins in Costa Maya? Are they worth seeing? We want to experience a bit of "culture" while on the cruise and not spend the whole time relaxing...yes, we're officially crazy!

Not surprised to hear that you have no time to scrap - i've seen that among store owners here . . . although there are a LOT fewer of them than there used to be. Sure wish I could visit YOUR shop, Rach!

(I posted a couple photos of my trip journal on page 4 of the precious moments thread on the DIS scrapbook board, if you're interested)

Is she coming home for Christmas?
She is comes home Dec. 23 for two weeks. We get home Dec. 26, so we will have lots of time together, then it will be the next 6 months that may be hard for her. Her boyfriend may go over to visit. I would be nice if someone went in April during her spring break.
