It has been a crazy weekend here in DE. I was a bridesmaid in a wedding this weekend in Philly and then DH and I headed to Maryland for a memorial service followed by a retirement party in the Poconos today.
We are preparing for Sandy and we will be just below where she makes landfall. My old apartment is under the mandatory evac zone so I am glad to currently live in a house not in that zone! We got hit pretty hard last year during Irene and my "husband's dry basement" flooded, right after we refinshed half of it. The basement has a sump pump pit with no sump and DH swore he had never seen water it, even after I questioned it. Lucky the water was only in the unfinished side of the basement and we spotted it pretty early. I spent all night bailing the sump pump pit with a shop vac and once we lost power, by hand with a bucket. It was not an enjoyable thing to be doing 1 week before your wedding. Anyway, installing a sump pump has been on my to do list since then and I hadn't gotten around to it. It just made #1 on my list! Some roads in DE are already flooding.
DH's office cancelled work for him until Wednesday. He gets those as "free" days. My company isn't so nice, we will need to make up our hours or take PTO. Boo. I have a feeling I will be very busy though, there will be A LOT of sewers backing up and backing up people's basements. I will most likely be sent out to deal with this issue. Rain gear is ready!
I wish my FE gifts didn't need power to make but they do so I am guessing I won't be able to work on them. I might just have to do my x-mas cards and read if I am not working.
Hope everyone else in Sandy's path is ready and stays safe and has no sanitary sewer back-ups!
Christina-Hope you and the kids are making it through today. Our thoughts are with you.
Gdes1-My nephew had issues with sounds when he was younger. My sister took him to the doctor who told her that this is normally a sign of intellegence and not to worry to much about it. I don't know if he was just making her feel better or not. We always carried ear plugs (just the small roll into ears kind) and had them stashed everywhere. Even with the ear plus in, nephew would want someone covering his ears. Besides having to use them during parades and fireworks, we had to use them on It's a small world, there is a bird on a piston and that sound drove my nephew crazy. Other noises on rides also bothered him. One thing to be careful of is the ship's horn and the sailaway parties. We couldn't be on deck when the horn would blow. Nephew outgrew these issues at around age 7 and nothing bothers him anymore. I have access to loads of ear plugs, so let me know if you would like me to grab you any and bring them along
