How many people sell items on ebay to earn funding for your Disney trip? What type of items do you sell? Do you do it year around?

I started doing this as a way to earn more for our Disney fund. My daughter clothes were like new & name brand ...I did do much better than a garage sale on most items, even after subtracting all the fees. I have noticed the last month has been really slow.........hopefully things will pick up soon.

I've been selling some on ebay. some times can b slow but have raised some money. used it for $ for last trip & am trying again.

I sell renaissance costumes on Ebay for the Disney cause. As others have said, it's been a little slow over the summer months, hopefully it will pick up. Then again, I find myself spending way too much time on the boards rather than sewing!

We have sold items on ebay for several years. We usually sell 8-12 items each week & this paid for our last trip. We sell stuff that would normally go in yard sales. I also shop around for sale items, especially from outlet stores, and re-sell.

One of the "big" profit items we sold one time was a Donald Duck night light. I got it on sale for about $5. There were 2 people who really wanted it & kept on bidding. It finally sold for about $35!

I've also bought stuff from the LLBean outlet & have made some good money on that.

When I see a big sale, I'm thinking ebay & WDW!

We also use Auctionworks to help us keep track of inventory and sales.

Good luck!

When the big PIN collecting thing happened several years ago at WDW I got sucked into it big time. I was lucky enough to have traveled to California and Japan for work and had a few friends there. The really hard to find pins just started pouring in. Well I sold off nearly all my pins at the height of "I will pay anything" time period. That financed 2 full trips and my AP for 2001.
Add to that I change collections and hobbies every year I am slowly recovering closet space now.
Now if only I would not browse new items I could pay for my next trip in Dec.

can someone explain how you figure out shipping charges to send your stuff after someone buys it?

thanks,

I can't believe it but yesterday was my 4 year anniversary on eBay! I started out selling the kids things they outgrew, then all the stuff we didn't need. When I ran out, I started buying stuff just to resell.

It's turned into a GREAT business for myself. All the money I earn goes towards vacations and extras.

It's always slow during the summer, but I list year round. For the past year I've been selling mostly clothes, NWT and higher end designer clothes. We move alot, so what I sell depends on what I can find where we live!

I wish I could make $1000.00 off a yard sale!!! :earseek: :earseek: :earseek: I've been ebaying on and off for about 3 years now. I've currently got some quilt sets on auction right now. But it's really slow right now. I think I may have to relist them. :( Anyone interested in some quilts???

I do pretty good on ebay, but this is our extra money down there for dinner shows, expensive dinners, I usually start 4 months before we go and stop 2 weeks, cash out and have spending money...

Is it hard to post pictures of Ebay items? I've been thinking of doing this but don't have a digital camera. I have considered using the regular camera & just having a disc made at developing time. Does anyone do it this way? Does it work for you?

I sold on ebay for a while. Then I got busy doing other things and didn't have time to take pictures, write descriptions, and list on ebay.

But I didn't want to stop altogether. I put some quick listings on half.com until I had more time to do ebay. I'm surprised but the sales come in - $260.60 since May. This isn't too bad since I don't even list that many things.

Half.com is not as fast as ebay on selling your stuff and you won't have the potential of a bidding war driving your price up, but I find that I really like it. Listing is easy, no listing fees, no e-mail communications necessary with bidder and winner, and since ebay collects the money for you up front, so no invoices, no waiting for payment, no paypal & billpoint commissions (in addition to ebay), and no dead beat bidders.

While I haven't given up on ebay, half.com is great for filling in the gap for the occassional seller who doesn't have time to list on ebay.

I 100% agree with you about half.com - I started doing it SLOWLY - listed a few items and was shocked that they sold...then the mother-ship came in...a used-book store closed in my area and sold me their books for 3 cents each!! :p

Needless to say, I've recouped my cost VERY quickly and have been able to afford this Disney trip next month!

Dh is doing this right now in hopes of a November trip. We just got married and are buying a house but have the WDW fever so this is the only way we will be able to do it.

in very basic terms how this ebay selling works? This looks like an easier way to finance a trip to the WORLD :bounce: then a yard sale and from the looks of it make more money to boot. Im not very good with computers so this has to be in easy to follow terms!!!

thanks for all the help

I sure need it!!!!

I've been selling th extras on Ebay for over 3 years off and on. I have a cheap digital camera, a 5 lb postal scale, and a local post office that is open til 9 during the week and til 6 on Sundays (this helps when you have a full time day job). I've made tons of $$$ over the years. The summer is really slow. So slow, that I've been thinking of having a yard sale right after Labor Day as we will probably be moving in October and are definitely going to Disney in Sept. I think Ebay does best September through December, and maybe March/April. Also, I think ending your auction on Sunday or Monday nights is best. Good luck!

Mom2boys - Yes, you can take pictures with a regular camera and have them put onto a disk. That is the way I started.

With my profits, I bought a cheap (almost free) flat bed scanner, then would get them developed and scan them in or just scan the item itself.

When I realized I would keep selling on eBay, I then bought a digital camera.

My advise is for everyone to start small. If you are selling your own items for vacation money, it doesn't make sense to invest a lot of money in the beginning.
