Sorry another Ebay question. I have an item up for sale and I state that I only ship to the US. This morning I received a question from someone asking me if I would ship to Canada and that this person would pay the extra shipping. I would consider it as a one time thing, I guess. How much extra paperwork would I need to fill out or what else would be involved. This is only my fourth sale so I'm really new to this.

Should I just restate that I only ship to US or make a "one time exception?"
Right now I have six people watching my item so I think it's going to sell. I just don't want to upset anyone, plus I'll probably have more items in this category to sell later. What should I do?

Please give me some advice asap because I don't want to leave this person hanging. Thanks so much!! :goodvibes

shipping to Canada is as simple as filling out a green customs slip. Just check your postage on the USPS site so that you charge enough postage for it.

Or you can take it to the PO first and get an accurate postage rate first and then let your buyer know.

About 50% of my shipments are outside the US and I have never not had someone get their auction item(s)

I keep a supply of different custom slips on hand. If you have to go to the PO and pick up some, ask at that time and it will save you a trip

Thanks so much for the quick reply! I didn't want to turn anyone away and if it's just a matter of a custom's form...well, I think I can handle that! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! :thumbsup2

You can also calculate and print postage to Canada on the USPS website. I did it this way and it was fairly simple. There is an only form that you fill out that will automatically generate the necessary documentation for mailing to Canada. I think it is form 2976 and you will need the customs envelope 2976E. If you go online to the USPS Postal Store you can order the envelopes and forms for free and have sent to your home. (Boxes are free to if you need them) Hope this helps. Shipping to Canada used to intimidate me too, but the USPS makes it pretty easy.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to call the PO to make sure I've calculated the correct postage and what the cost will be for confirmation...just to be sure before I email the potential customer back. Thanks!!

Just be sure if you are going to accept paypal for this that they have a confirmed address (some in Canada can be) and that you ship using an online tracking which usually means global express which can be pretty expensive

otherwise if it gets lost or the buyer says they didnt get it or just doesnt like it you will lose your money no matter what

It really depends on how much $$ it goes for

Thanks for the info. I called the PO and they said $19 for Global PS which means no tracking available or Air something which takes longer and costs $21 but I can track and put insurance on. I should have just quoted the $21--my mistake. As mean as it sounds, I hope the guy gets out-bidded! He already put in the first bid but I've had other questions and other watchers. Hopefully it will all work out okay. I'm bound to learn lots of lessons, I'm just hoping I don't have to learn the hard way! Thanks everyone for all of the input!
