So I sold something on ebay that ended Saturday night (final bid of $300). I sent an invoice to the winner and never heard from them. Well today I sent a follow up that was nice and explained how I wanted them to get their item quickly. Well, I got a response from them:

Hi I am new at this, I was wondering what the final bid was?? I shouldn't have to pay my max bid if no one else bid any higher $280.00 which was my last bid. Would you take $280.00??? Please let me know!

Umm, sorry but the ending bid was $300. It went up to your maximum bid because people bid higher than your final bid. So now, I will not give you a deal just because you win. Grr...

Vent over.

The "winner" is just probably trying to see how far she can push for a discount. I'd email her back and say "Sorry, but no discount". If she won't pay, contact eBay asap.

"Sorry, you must be confused. The last bid before yours was $295, and your $300 bid won the auction."

Yeah, I would venture to guess not a newbie at all. I would email back and say, "I'm sorry, the final price was $300. If you are unfamiliar with how maximum bid/automatic bidding works, you may learn more about it here - http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/automatic-bidding.html."

I really don't want to have to go through ebay and dispute this and everything, I just want to sell my item.

I emailed the person back and said that the final bid was $300. I mentioned that I would sell them to someone else as as another bidder also went up to $300. The response I got was "ok, go ahead and sell them to someone else."

I will definitely be leaving negative feedback on their account. If you don't actually want to potentially pay $300 in the end, don't put that as your maximum bid :headache:

I haven't sold on eBay in a while, but don't they HAVE to pay since they won? Or has eBay gone so far to the buyer's side that they don't have to any longer?

They offer something called 'Second Chance Offer' where you can offer the item to other bidders in the auction for their maximum bid price.

I have had to dispute things in the past so its a pain and don't want to go through with that again.

Well there's a crack in my plan. I can't even file a dispute until Wednesday.

Anyone know if my Second Chance offer is accepted if I can still file a dispute just to the original buyer gets a strike against them?

Stupid ebay...now I see what people are starting to dislike it more and more.

LOL, I have another Ebay vent that happened recently.

My bf set up an ebay store since it's cheaper to list. Had an item listed for $50 as a Buy It Now, with Best Chance Offer. Setting it up, to automatically accept any offers above $45. Person A sent a request for $40, countered at $45. He sent an email back saying $45 was ok for him, but never officially Accepted the offer in the counter. They have 48hrs to do this before the offer goes away.
Within that 48hrs, person B did a best chance offer of $45 (since the item was still listed), and it got automatically accepted. At first we thought it was person A, till we went to print out the printing label and realized it was another person. Sent an email to person A, saying "sorry, but you did not accept the offer in time and the item sold to another person".

Person A then flipped out. Saying that it was a binding contract in the email since we agreed to $45 for the item. That he was going to contact Ebay, BBB, the State General or some one. And that he was going to have Ebay stop all of our sales till he got his item. It went on for like 3 days with these emails. Finally called up Ebay, and told them about it. After two calls to them, the messages finally stopped.

On top of that, this person only had a feedback of 40. While my bf's account is a power seller with nearly 2000. Yeah, who's side is Ebay going to take on the matter?

No, you cannot. Proper procedure is file UID, wait for it to close, then make second chance offer. What if the buyer (who is legally obligated to pay) then decides in the middle of the dispute they want to do what's right and purchase the item, however, you've already sold it? That leaves you responsible for the outcome of the dispute and a negative fb.

If you choose the UID, let bidder #2 know that there is a possiblity of a second chance offer in the future (after the dispute is over)...or simply relist.

Another thing that I've done is "mutually agree to end transaction". This allows the buyer to walk away and the seller to recoup their FVFs.

Things like this are why I hardly ever sell anything on EBay anymore. I have gotten burned so many times in the past, that I tend to use Craigslist more these, or good ol' fashioned word of mouth.

I put a Second Chance Offer on it for the night and no one bit. So I went back to the winner and explained that I did try to help her out since she was new and that I wasn't supposed to do that until I resolved our issue. I also said that I need to protect myself in this situation. We'll see what she says now.

I didn't want to have to dispute it, but its not my fault she didn't know how to bid. I don't want her screwing other people either.

Oh geez Louise. Here is her response:

Ok thanks for clarifying, I will go in and pay for the tickets, once I do that do you send them to me?

Really, lady? Now you are just going to pay for them. Get a clue...

I'm curious...does she have any feedback, already? If so, is it all positive?

Not that it matters now... BUT

You could not even file a claim on Wednesday or leave neg(even if buyers could still receive negs), because you had let the buyer off the hook by saying you would sell to someone else. You AGREED to let them get out of the deal at that point.

I know you tried to help, but if you file a claim all they have to do is provide EBAY with your email and case closed.

You really are lucky they decided to pay.

You are 100% right. I definitely did not handle that well and put myself in a bad situation. Thankfully I got lucky. But we all learn from our mistakes, so I can only handle issues better in the future.

What should I leave for feedback? Should I mention that she was sketchy or not say anything since she finally did pay?

Even though negative feedback can not be left for buyers... Feedback is of higher importance to sellers.

If you leave her any thing short of positive... You might receive a negative and it will impact any future sales.

I would just not leave any feedback on this transaction.
