eBay stepping up security

soon they will verify each computer you log on with in an attempt to catch fraudulent hacking. They suggested an automated phone call giving a pin to verify the computer you are on. You can add a cell phone to the call list.

For me, it would not be a problem. If I travel I take my laptop. I would also register my work computer and home desktop.

what do you think?
some hassle for better security? sounds familiar.

eBay has always seemed flawed to me. Such an action just draws more attention to that fact, IMHO.

eBay is part of the internet....which has been proven to have flaws. This shouldn't bring more attention to something we already know.

I've been on eBay for 5 years. It's now my top source of income. All I read is how BAD it is. I have found NOTHING that can give me the kind of money it gives me without spending my gas and my disgust of stupid people face to face.

I don't know one corporation that is without flaws... and I've worked for some of the biggest. So far I've had to roll with the punches while being lied to by smiling millionaires who promise me the world. I don't have to deal with that on eBay. If I work harder I make more.. that is the American dream.

It is all a matter of the proportion of good-to-bad. Buying things from Amazon.com with my Discover card has always been a safe -- yes, even "flawless" -- experience. By comparison, buying things from eBay.com with PayPal ... well, let's just say "no-so-much".

I'll grant that eBay is better for small sellers than other means of selling what you're selling.

It's like comparing buying from Macy's or a yard sale. Most of eBay's sellers are human beings, not companies. Amazon is one of the biggest companies in the world.

Of course on eBay you have the choice to deal with a company or a small seller, just like you do on Amazon. Sellers take a chance also, there is always an amount of risk with anything exchanging money.

I've still never found any better option.

Except the system treats all sales as if from a small seller.

The only eBay sales I would consider are the ones that take credit cards directly.

Instead of Paypal? Those are hard to find, aren't they? In all my years of buying and selling, I've really only come across a few of them. Is this becoming more of a trend?

I hope the security thing works. Before my husband and I got into selling on ebay his account was hacked they posted 100s of not so designer bags, I assume they were fake bags. He only knew because he was online and kept getting "you got mail" every 2 seconds. He hadn't been on ebay for awhile.

They changed our banking info to his and we did get ebay to help us. Only one of, nearly 100 postings ended up with a bid but we did have to answer several questions posted we just told them we did not list them our account was hacked and to please not bid.

I believe they do need better security because of this. While we were selling..last year we really didn't have any problems..2 did not pay but beyond that nothing to big.

Instead of Paypal?

Paying through PayPal means you cannot get the credit card company to reverse the charge, since the vendor (PayPal) did what you asked (i.e., send money to the seller).

Those are hard to find, aren't they?

Practically impossible.
