I sold a piece of musical equipment on ebay. It is my husbands. I took the picture and guy who won received it and sent me a scathing email today. It accused me of trying to hide something in the picture bend or dent or something.
He is claiming it does not work perfectly. He could clean it but I'm afraid to even suggest that. We included a case with it. It took me a while to pack it securely. So much packing that I actually ate $10 in shipping. He want to send it back and get a full refund.
I am realitively new to selling on ebay. Do I have to refund his money. He paid through paypal. It is over $150. I feel I was honest and it works fine. I don't want negative feedback but feel that is inevitable at this point. I was not trying to be dishonest at all. It is used musical equipment. I do not check the box for "accepts refunds" and do not fill out that return info. I made a big mistake I think by not specifically saying "NO REFUNDS" in the auction. Live and learn I guess.
What happens if I respond to his email that he did not ask for refund policy prior to bidding and I will not refund his money??? HELP anybody have experience with this. I could cry I feel so bad right now.

I posted this on Budget Board also I am desperate for opinions and information.

bumping myself back to page 1 - no replies yet.

The return policy is completely up to you. You need to weigh the pros and cons of this. If you gave a very good and accurate description of the item and provided detailed photos, you can point that out to him. However, you did kind of hurt yourself by not giving any return info on your auction. It's not really his fault that he didn't ask you about the return policy...he was expecting it to be fine. The responsibility for providing return information (whether it's a timeframe or saying "no returns") is on you. So really, you need to consider everything here.

And for future reference, ALWAYS indicate in your auction whether or not you accept returns and any pertinent info.

I had a similar experienc- selling a radio transmitter for my husband. The buyer filed a complaint with Paypal and they froze my money until it was resolved ($250.00). I ended up giving him a refund when I received the item back. It turned out that it worked perfectly and it was buyer's remorse and I was able to resell it. You can get your fees back from ebay as well. I think it is just easier to make the buyer happy. My opinion is to offer a refund upon return of the item and try again with a very thorough description.

If you agree to the return, just be sure that the one get back is the same one you shipped to him, and not some old crummy thing that he substitutes and says that it is the one you shipped to him- in other words, when you get the box back open it right away and make sure! Don't let the box sit around for a while as I have heard about buyers getting returns that were obviously NOT the items they sent out, and they have had to fight with eBay/Paypal, which is really tough to do.

If you post your eBay item number, eBayers on here can read your listing (even though it's closed) and give you their opinion on what you did or didn't imply about returns. Also does he have a good feedback rating? Sometimes you can tell from that if you're going to have problems or not..... :guilty:

If I am reading this right, he is not saying it was damaged during shipping, only that it is not as listed (in his opinion) If so, I would refund the money upon the return of the item. And then I would relist it, being very careful with the description and return policy.

If you do not, he will just file a complaint and say that the item is not as listed. Then, it will up to ebay to decide. Unfortunately, they tend to side with buyers in these types of cases.

good luck with it.
