I put an auction on ebay that many people seem to want. This has happened to me before with other items as well, but not to this magnitude. People e-mail me asking to stop the auction early, sell directly to them, or some sob story why they can't afford the current price (i.e. sell it to me for less than the current auction price). I always reply to each of them, declining their offer politely. I then get an e-mail basically saying: "Well, I didn't want to mention this at first, but my father is dying of cancer and this is the only thing to cheer him up. Be glad to have your health." WTH???:confused3 When is it terrible for a person to sell something on ebay, and have it go for more than a particular person is willing to pay? I'm not a professional seller, I mainly sell things I've collected and often don't recoup what I paid, I just want to get rid of things. Other times, I had items like HSM concert tickets, because I won a radio concert and had two sets. It doesn't make me a bad person if the tickets went for more than their original price. Does this happen to anyone else or am I the only one to attract these.....nuts:charac2:

Don't let it bother you, it isn't worth it. Just ignore the emails, that's usually what I do. Put in your description that you will not end an auction early as well.

Isn't this a violation of ebay rules, as well?

you would actually complete a transaction "on the side"--that is against ebay policy.
Not one of those sounds legit; clearly they want what you have in an effort to sell it for even greater profit.
I would not even respond to such emails; unless you just repond that to do what they ask is against the rules, and you don't engage in such things.

I have had my share of nuts as well. I got a lady that was mad that her item wasn't at her home the next day after she paid she threatened to call child protective services because I shouldn't be allowed to raise my kids. I had a guy 'IM' me over and over again asking me to sell him some item. I blocked him only to have his girlfriend 'IM' me wondering who her BF is 'IM" ing and threatening to kill me if I didn't stay away from her BF. I finally had another lady put a voodoo curse on me because my item went too high for her to bid on...
When I first started selling and received these kinds of emails it really used to bother me. Now it's just pretty funny. I wouldn't worry about it.

I say share the guilt, and tell them you are raising money to pay for cancer treatments for your own father because those treatments and getting well is the only thing that will cheer him up.

Really.... people never cease to amaze me.

:lmao: :lmao: Now that's a great one!!! I like that!!!

I wonder if that ever works? :confused3 I have been losing DOZENS of auctions because I am too cheap to bid higher. Maybe giving up and going about my business is the wrong approach! I should send lunatic e-mails to the sellers and maybe they will stop the auction just for me!
Thanks for the hint!:rotfl2:

I get them too. Sometimes I don't even respond. I sell hard to find, new toys, and my favorite for these is "Walmart has the toy you are selling for $10.00 and you have it selling for $20.00. Can I pay you $10.00?" I politely tell them to go to Walmart.

OMG- I am so sorry they tried to lay that guilt trip on you OP. Don't let it get to you. Every time I have a hot item I get people asking for my Buy It Now price. Ummm- if I had a Buy It Now price you would see it in the auction. I have gotten lots of offers to end early for $X - always declined and 100% of the time got more than that offer. I hate that- but it does make eBaying a little more exciting. It is like Deal or No Deal.

I love this response!!!:rotfl2: I will have to see if this would work....

Yikes, you have found some nuts for sure....

I opened my e-mail this morning and had two more e-mails. I can't wait for these auctions to be over:hippie:
