:confused3 Hey friends,
This is the problem - on August 24th I sold some of my DD PJ's for $4.25. I asked for $6.00 shipping. I also offered insurance on the purchase. The buyer did not take the insurance. I sent the box out on Saturday, Aug 27th. I received an email on Wednesday from the buyer saying she has never received the package. It has been a month! I don't know what to do - I sent her a return message asking if she had purchased the insurance and today I got a slightly mean message telling me that she lives in a wonderful neighborhood and has ALWAYS received her packages. She said, "I guess I am just out of luck, right?" I feel so badly, but I don't know what to do. I am worried that she will leave nasty feedback if I don't do something, but I shouldn't have to do anything should I? I KNOW that I sent that box to her. Help, buddies!! :confused3

Did you get delivery confirmation on the package? Did your buyer pay with paypal? If they did pay with paypal, they can do a chargeback and win. If you can't prove delivery , I would refund .

Actually there is a time limit with paypal to file and it may already be past that..however if they used a credit card with paypal they can file a chargeback through them..

A delivery confirmation would have helped you know for sure if they got the package or not...at this point its tough to know what to do. I would worry about the credit card chargeback (but if she didnt use one she still may leave you negative feedback)

Well hard to know what to do. You could offer to refund her half the price, maybe..... I haven't had this happen but from this board I changed my policy about a year ago and I get delivery confirmation on everything. Lesson learned, I guess.

Since insurance wasn't purchased there isn't much you can do. But she can still file w/ pay pal if that is how you were paid. If you can't prove you mailed it she will win and get her money back. She may have also expected DC or insurance w/ that shipping price.

As the seller, you are responsible for getting the item to her, whether or not the buys insurance. I know a lot of sellers like to use disclaimers saying it's "out of their hands" once it gets to the post office, but they are walking on thin ice. And buyers who use Paypal or credit cards don't have to worry about such disclaimers, because they are irrelevant. I require insurance unless the item was cheap enough that I don't mind refunding if something happens (which nothing has, so far, knock on wood).

Since I have only sold 6 items on eBay, I had no idea even to do delivery confirmation. This whole situation makes me never want to do eBay again. I sold 7 pairs of perfect condition pajamas for a whopping $4.25 and now I'm supposed to pay this lady back. How do I even know she isn't lying about not receiving them? From now on I will stick to rummage sales!

Delivery confirmation is really the only way to protect yourself in world of ebay. You can have delivery confirmation added on at the p.o. or you can get it for free buy printing out your label online at usps.com . Sorry that you have to learn about it this way but definately have it for all future packages. I would definately refund her $ in this case (since you don't have any proof of delivery.) Sorry!

From now on just add the cost of Delivery Confirmation into your shipping charges.

Even if they receive the package and paid by paypal, if you did not add a delivery confirmation the can do a charge back and will win. :guilty:

Don't let this turn you off to ebay. Now you know what to do for next time :goodvibes

We all make mistakes.. for example I started 2 auctions for .99 figur
ing t.he would go for more. Nope, the ended at .99 last night. LASt time I do that lol

Without Delivery Confirmation there is NO WAY to know that she isn't lying and is now just wanting her money back.

Take a look at her FB. What do the comments say? Do they give you an impression that she has done this before?

I have had this happen a couple of times. The first time was like yours, a very small amount. I offerred to split the cost with the person and refunded 1/2 the auction amount. This person was quite reasonable about it and we both waked away satisfied. After that, I made sure to keep my post office receipts from the packages and I also started using Delivery Confirmation. You can read about it here.

If you have the ability to print your labels online, Delivery confirmation is much cheaper..from free for Priority mail to about 13 cents for other methods. If you just mail from the Post Office, it costs about 50 cents.

Definately add that into your shipping costs in your auctions.
