I'm not sure if this is the place to post this, but here goes. I had an account with EBAY that I used to purchase a couple of items awhile back. I have never sold anything. I got an e-mail a few months ago saying that my account was being suspended due to improper actions on EBAY and that in order to protect my info and stay in good standing that I should fax them a copy of my driver's license. Now, I had not used the account in several months and had heard about some shady e-mails where people were trying to get your account info, so after a couple of inquiries (never answered) as to what had happened, I closed the account and sent an e-mail stating that I had not done anything improper and that I would NEVER fax them a copy of my driver's license. Last month I opened another EBAY account to get some points in a reward program. I didn't list anything or buy anything. Today I got another e-mail saying that they were suspending the new account for improper activity. The e-mail I received is as follows:

Dear valued eBay member,
We regret to inform you that your eBay account has been suspended due to concerns we have for the safety and integrity of the eBay community. Per the User Agreement, Section 9, we may immediately issue a warning, temporarily suspend, indefinitely suspend or terminate your membership and refuse to provide our services to you if we believe that your actions may cause financial loss or legal liability for you, our users or us. We may also take these actions if we are unable to verify or authenticate any information you provide to us.

Due to the the suspension of this account, please be advised you are prohibited from using eBay in any way. This includes the update of your actual account.
If you could please take 5-10 minutes out of your online experience and update your personal records, you will not run into any future problems with the online service.
Please update your records by the 10th of June. Once you have updated your account records your eBay session will not be interrupted and will continue as normal.
To update your eBay records click on the following link:

Is this for real! Does anyone have a telephone number for EBAY that I can call to check into this? Since it's the 2nd time it's happened I'm kind of freaked out that they may get my PayPal info or CC#. I would appreciate any information or advice.

Thanks:scared:

SCAM!!! Ebay will not ask you to update anything in a link in an email.

I send any message I get along these lines to spoof@ebay.com. Similar messages relating to Paypal go to spoof@paypal.com. They always come back quickly and verify that the message was not from them.

I did get a message once from eBay saying that they suspected a problem with my account and that I should log into it immediately and change the password. I did this and never had any other problems.

I had that same spam mail for Pay Pal. I made the mistake of clicking on the link in the email. As soon as I did I realized it was a spam mail due to the URL address it redirected to. I immediately changed my passwords and contanted Pay Pal through Spoof Mail. They told me it was not an email they had sent. My quick actions saved me any grief. No one was able to access my account.

Very important tip for you. If the email does not address you by your name it is a spam mail. Pay Pal and e-Bay both will also use your name instead of "Dear Valued Member".

*****CAUTION***** !!!!!

I received a scam within the past ten days - can't remember if it was in regards to Paypal, eBay, or AOL - BUT they addressed me by my FULL NAME !!! I forwarded the email and was informed that it was definitely a scam !!!!

So even if theyDO address you by name, it could still be a scam !!!

Forward the email to the proper spoof@ and then CALL someone directly - or log on to your account separately to determine if there really is a problem..

I repeat - the use of - or lack of - your name does NOT clarify whether or not it is a scam!!!!

For what it's worth, I was told by paypal security that if the provided link takes you to an http: account instead of a secured site (https:), then it's a scam.

In the first thread, the link was:
http://cgi1.ebay.com/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?UPdate

Definitely not a secured site. Plus the cgi1.ebay.com address should raise some flags too.

I received the exact same email, only mine said if I didn't update by the 11th I would be suspended.

I didn't click on anything. I have basically ignored it.
I did open up a new page to access ebay and look at my account records etc.
Didn't see anything out of place, but I guess I will be forwarding that email to spoof@ebay.

Time to change all my passwords I guess.

So glad you posted on this, because I was just going to ignore it.

We have gotten three of them in the last few months. i have forwarded them all to Ebay and they say they are looking into it and that's the last I hear. I just won an auction 10 minutes before checking my emails and it said I could no longer bid or sell until I updated my info. so that was a sure sign.

I received one before and ignored it. Nothing happened and I never lost any priviledges.

I was told by eBay to NEVER click on the links in an email. When you click on the link in an email, the other party is aware of the activity and can monitor your every move when it opens up. (passwords you type, pages you visit thereafter if you keep the same window open, etc...)

If you are unsure, copy and paste them into a different browser.

This should be true for other emails. I always copy and paste links now instead of clicking within a email.

You NEVER know with people now adays and that so sad...:(
