eBay Listing - Is This For Real?!

There is a 25 point December UY contract for BCV on eBay right now. There are 5 days left before the auction ends and bidding is already up to $2,755!!! Interestingly enough, the bidding is "private" so you can't see the user IDs of people who are bidding.

Something smells fishy about this. Why would anyone pay over $110 per point when you can buy direct (or through resale) for less than $100? I know you can't buy a new DVC membership for less than 150 points, but this is crazy.

BWV once brought in a price of $85 when it was selling for $74....

now I know this is a lot higher. but some people actually think that is what DVC sells for...

I have heard here prices of over $30,000 for 150 points - I try to correct them - but some people just don't believe that DVC is as good buy as still is...

One thing that I think affects his prices is the fact that he mistates the truth and says in his ad that BCV is "SOLD OUT and no longer available through Disney." So many may believe that this is the only way you can buy BCV. The fact that his auctions are "private" means no one can even email the bidders to direct them to the DIS boards for information.

If someone wants to buy in with a small contract this might be the way in for them. They want DVC but will not purchase 150 points. It's possible these folks have tried small (25 point) contracts and Disney has exercised ROFR. The contracts posted on the ROFR thread show quite a few small contracts being taken back that way.

Would I pay $110 per point for the contract? Doubtful (well, actually no, I wouldn't), but someone thinks it's a good deal. There are some of these small contracts on other timeshare sites and they, too, are $100+ per point with the buyer paying all closing costs, etc.

There are all kinds of items that retail for less than they fetch on EBAY, and I am talking about readily available items not just things like XBOX 360 during Xmas.

Some persons are willing to pay, I dont really understand why but they do.

While a high price overall, it might still be worth it for the right person. Maybe they just want into the system for the perks or for a few days in a studio weekdays every couple of years. Or maybe they simply need a place to transfer rented points and plan to take advantage of the loophole in the transfer handling.

Looking in the thread titled: "Anyone made it through (or not made it through) ROFR recently?" and go to the last 1-2 pages and look at a sample of the offers ROFR'd. Consistent with other discussions on this board is that Disney WILL exercise ROFR for points less than 50 and less than $90 on the more sought out properties like BWV and BCV.

I agree with Dean in that a small contract is right for a certain individual. Heck, for off-peak periods Sun-Thur, a 25pt contract can by a 4-day vacation every other year! For a small family on a budget, this is a pretty good deal. And if they decide it's not right for them, the risk is smaller - they can get out pretty quickly since the small contracts tend to move faster and will see less discount and lower commission amount.

I disagree with byoung in that you cannot look at it costing an extra $17/pt. You have to consider the TOTAL OUTLAY. Not everyone can afford Disney's 150 pt minimum (upfront or in payments) to spend $92x150 = $13,800 (plus closing costs if using a broker). Even at a premium amount above $92, what can 25 pts cost? $2500 - $4000? Let's face it, WDW is not the cheapest of options. Disney has been doing this for years and knows how to suck every nickel out of their visitors. So, the small premium spent "getting in" will be saved many times over by limiting travel every 2-3 years with a small 25-50 pt contract. Not that you won't spend money on other vacations, it's just hard to believe that other trips can cost as much as being at Disney.

you know it might be the same guy. he was sure mad that several people here had pointed out that he was misleading....his buyers....

so he found away for outsiders not to contract his buyers....

That's interesting, did he come to the board to express his unhappiness? I know I've seen him sell other DVC contracts in the past year or two and I think his other listings contained the same misstatement in the ads re "sold out resort" and "no longer available through Disney".

BE careful with that... I used to email the victims of rip off artists on ebay. Those money grubbing jerks slapped me down with a week suspension because I was INTERFERRING WITH A SALE. Unless ebay knows they can get sued, they don't care how deceptive people are.

Regarding "Sold out and no longer available through Disney"...

...I'm not so sure it's an untruth. If there are no contracts available for the use year, then it is in fact sold out and it isn't available through Disney. It may become available in the future and probably will but there are no guarantees of that happening.

I'd disagree. What was happening was that predators were looking for newbies with ratings less than 10, and they'll contact them offering the same items for less. However, since these transactions are not through EBAY, when someone sent money and got nothing back - seller used a fake website, stole an EBAY identity, got in and out quickly to cover his tracks - EBAY's hands are tied and cannot go after the offending party since there is no evidence either way. So, Ebay now makes you jump through hoops to contact a bidder.

As for the "private listing", it's really for those buying "mature audiences" DVD's wanting to stay anonymous.

I've seen good advice on these boards, and I've seen some really bad advice. If I got burned on a deal because a potential buyer was getting some bad advice, I may do something similar.
