Ebay help

That doesn't seem to be what happened. The person who retracted bid 3 times but only the final bid was retracted.

Meanwhile, 2nd person's 3 counter-bids are all in place.

Dawn

What is the amount of the 2nd place person's bid? Was it the max that they bid? Or was it back down to the minimum amount?

It's been a long time since I've retracted a bid, but I thought that if someone bids an auction up and then retracts once they become the highest bidder, all bids placed by that person are cancelled and it goes back to the lowest amount before that person bid.

For convenience sake, we will call the bid retracter Bidder #1 and the one who won Bidder #2.

Did Bidder #1 place one bid? Or did Bidder #1 incrementally increase the bid to try to make Bidder #2 pay the highest price possible? That may be what causes concern.

I am looking at the bid retraction again. It was only 20 min. before the end of the auction.

Is there no recourse for someone who does this?

This most likely is not a Christmas gift for anyone, but doing this the week before Christmas is not cool at all.

There is nothing you can do as the retraction was allowed under eBay rules.

That is exactly what I thought when it happened to me. Since there were only two bidders (me and that other bidder), I thought the fair thing would have been for all of their bids to have been withdrawn, but that's not how it works. Only their last bid was withdrawn.

Their last bid was only the minimal amount required higher than mine so they didn't put in more than they meant to (and it wasn't an automated bid because this took place over a couple of days). That was the only time I ever had this happen, and I did contact eBay (who didn't seem to care one way or the other).

I do think there should be some recourse for dealing with this kind of thing. If the winning bid is withdrawn, all of their bids should be removed.

Highest bidder did not contact me today.

Can I just re-list it and not be charged the ebay fee, or do I need to report it as unpaid and then re-list it so that I don't get dinged?

Thanks,

Dawn

In order to not be charged the final value fees you need to file unpaid paid bidder and then they have a few days to pay and if they do not pay you need to escalate the dispute and cancel transaction after checking box you have not received payment then they will return the fee to your account and you can relist I will send you the link in pm to block the bidder from bidding on your items in future

I have already clicked "mutually cancel transaction." but it says it is waiting for her to now respond. She isn't responding.

Dawn, I hope this is resolved soon for you. It sounds very frustrating! Hope it all goes well and by this time next week you will no longer have this worry hanging over you. :goodvibes

Thank you. I hope so too. I really want to realist this and get it sold but I am in limbo because I was trying to be nice!

I would send them an email saying you have filed to mutually cancel the transaction for them but that they need to do their part and respond so that it will actually cancel. That way they wont be penalized either. I would make sure to tell that

Ugh. Here you are trying to let the buyer off the hook with no repercussions and she's giving you the run around. I would rescind the offer and file a non-paying bidder on her. It will take more time to resolve but there is an end to it and you're not left hanging. Plus she will get a NPB strike against her and most experienced sellers block someone with strikes against them.

This is what I would do if the buyer is giving the run around

UPDATE: I started a resolution ticket that asked the seller to cancel the bidding on her end. That was almost 5 days ago. There has been NO response. Now what do I do to make sure I can list again and not get charged?????

I am really irritated. It is one thing to go back on paying, it is another thing to not even respond and leave me hanging without the possibility of delisting and the possibility of getting charged in the process.

Does anyone know how long EBAY keeps this ticket open before I can just claim an unpaid bidder????

Original Post:

I had an auction end today. I wasn't home when it ended so I am a bit confused as to what happened.

Apparently two people placed several bids and it went back and forth, until one of them was winning the auction (or won, I am confused.) Anyway, the top bidder retracted his bid and it defaulted to the 2nd person.

The 2nd person is upset and says the other person outbid him and he shouldn't have to pay that amount since the other person was winning.

Now, first of all, 2nd person DID bid that amount, I can see that he did. However, I can also understand thinking you didn't win and walking away and being surprised that you actually did win.

So, what do I do? I can try to get him to go ahead and pay but if he refuses, then do I open a non-payment ticket with ebay?

You need to go into the resolution center and "escalate" the case so that customer service will manually cancel it.

You have a certain amount of time to close a case. It's like 3 or 4 days. eBay will not charge you a final listing fee if you didn't get paid. I would just wait those days and close it out and relist. I sell a lot on eBay and have had the same thing happen to me. I never assumed the lower bidder would just jump and buy the item just because the winner retracted. In her defense it's probably better for her to wait and see it you relist it and get your item for a lower price. It's just how it goes on eBay and that is why I always start a listing at the lowest amount I am willing to take for an item.

If you go to your case and click close it should ask you if you have been paid. Click NO and it should close it for you or will tell you how much longer you have to wait to close the case yourself. You do not need a response from the other party involved.
