Hi Everyone

PLEASE help me ... Yesterday I bid on electronic goods from a buyer with almost 100% positive feedback. I paid the $825 through paypal ... this morning I awoke to my worst nightmare. My ebay account does not reflect the items I won plus the all the sellers current items have disappeared. It seems that this has happened to the other buyers too and the seller has one feedback this morning that states Account used for FRAUD.

WHAT do I do? If you need more information about my situation - just ask?

I contacted my credit card company and have a fraudulent claim established.

:guilty: I am so sad and scared.

I am so sorry I would try calling ebay. You called your credit card company which is the best thing to do.

I am sorry and angry that you are going through this. I knew someone who went through something similar on ebay, and had to get the State Attorney General involved on some level. He was reimbursed for losses by his credit card company, I hope yours does as well.

Your credit card company will refund your money, Thank God you paid that way and not by check or money order. You are protected by your credit card. Sorry this had to happand to you.

I've quit buying really expensive items from ebay because I've been ripped off twice! I agree that it is a good thing you used your credit card. I'd call paypal first, then ebay to report the user.

They used to be great...now there are way too many dealers and fraudulent sellers! Not worth the risk IMO, I really hope that it all works out for you!
Good Luck :thumbsup2

Ditto........ a lot of fraud on there and no phone number to talk to people. I get a big run around if I e-mail them about a problem. Now the sellers like to "wait" and see what type of rating you give them before you get a rating, i.e if you tell theres a problem they give YOU a bad rating.

Hi Everyone
Thanks for the replies ... I just cant believe that this has happened to me - I mean I know this kind of stuff exists but never had any personal experience.
On a positive note, my credit card company said that since I made the payment through paypal, less than 24 hours ago, the money was still in paypals account and not been transferred to the sellers, so I just had to make a stop payment ... well something to that effect - as long as I get my money back, I will feel better.
You know the scary part is that the seller had so many items up for auction, I looked at the feedback - it was all good - Fraud never even entered my mind. Plus, this seller even replied in detail to my email question. :furious: However, it is my understanding that this seller used at least two different ebay accounts that was not his and that was not used in the last few months.

Well, the sad part is I dont think I will ever be using ebay for big purchases any longer. I know there are honest and good sellers out there but its hard when you experience something like this.

Thank goodness for my credit card company as I did not hear from Paypal or Ebay - I am sure they have a lot to deal with but to me this is important.

Thanks again for reading, advice and letting me vent.

This is one bad week for me!!!!

Now, I REALLY REALLY need this vacation!

paypal also offers protection to buyers. so contact them as well as your credit card company. the sooner you get through to them the faster they can help you, maybe even before the seller gets his/her hands on the money.

I'm sorry you had this bad experience, and am very glad you will be getting your money back. As an Ebay seller, anytime a customer has a bad experience on Ebay, it is disappointing to me, because I hate to see people lose faith in Ebay sellers. Ebay is a venue - they do not guarantee the quality of the merchandise offered there, or the safety of the merchants who sell there.

It is a self-policed community. They do act on reports of fraud, but unfortunately, the scammers work fast, and can disappear as soon as ebay finds out about them.

The situation you describe sounds like a hi-jacked account. A legitimate ebay seller had his account used for fraudulent purposes. This happens when sellers are either careless with their username and password, or fall for a fake email, asking for their username and password.

Sorry that happened to you. I think you should be fine since you paid by credit card and through PayPal - just contact them and let them know.

I had a strange experience happen to me the other day. I'm not a frequent eBay user, but I do buy and sell occasionally. I bought a bunch of items from this guy, super nice, answered all my questions, shipped promptly, had a feedback of 12,000+ with only a handful of negatives. I get the box in the mail the other day, go online to leave feedback for him, and eBay had closed the account that morning. "This user is no longer a registered user." What could have happened? Could it be as simple as not paying his bill? I was really surprised with a feedback that high. And another feedback had been left for him about two hours before I signed on, so it had just happened. It's been over a week now, and he's still gone. :confused3

It seems to be happening more and more. A while ago someone got hold of my account details AND password - god knows how? and were selling concert tickets using my ebay acoount!

I informed ebay and they suspended my account til they could sort it out. In the meanwhile it meant I couldnt buy or sell :sad2:

They sorted it in the end but I dont get how these people can scam so easily. It does put you off buying expensive things off there.

Hope it gets sorted soon. Best of luck

Hi Again

Just spoke to someone at Paypal ... PLEASE help me understand this? Paypal says that although the seller has not claimed the money they can not stop the money going through because they also have to protect the seller. Before I start throwing pots and pans :furious: , PROTECT THE SELLER!!! I really dont understand - I told the person, that they can check with EBAY as this seller is a fraud plus I have emails to prove that all the items were cancelled by Ebay. The Paypal rep said that I can dispute in three days???? :furious: Now, I am really mad, my credit card company will give me my money back if it does go through but it means I have to file 2 disputes and it could take weeks.

Please understand my frustration (also the Paypal rep was rude and sarcastic and that sure doesnt help my calm nature)

Thank you kindly again.

PS ... Hugs are Welcome

Aw man I am sorry.

I can understand the logic of why they do that but to not have an out for fraud is rediculous.

Guess I won't be e-baying anymore. (I was never any good at it anyway).

I hope it resolves more quickly for you!

And this is the problem now that E-bay and Paypal had their merger .

Before Paypal would go right after someone for you but now they wait for E-bay to clear it before they even give you a break.

They could very easy check into it with E-bay but they choose not to .I don't know if they get numbers met this way or what but it's crazy.

I had several e-mails from a person claiming their accounts were highjacked and yet it still took them over 4 weeks to get my $500 back.

I have delt in both buying and selling big ( Over $500 ) items and never had a problem but I just see more Stores and Fraud going on it took away what E-bay was created for in the first place .To get people together for items no longer wanted by one but sought after from another.

All they care about is that money is exchanging hands from person to person ,account to account .

And this is why I hate paypal. I have had a very frustrating experience with them as well. Good luck, and luckily you have your credit card company to back you because if you had to rely souly on paypal then you would be screwed.

I've had a lot of bad eBay & Paypal experiences lately as well. Yesterday I got messages from eBay telling me that someone had hijacked my account and listed an $18,000 Mini Cooper for sale. I'm grateful that they caught it but now I have to go through the hassle of getting by account restored. I don't know if I'm going to bother...

I can't speak for PayPal as to why they are handling things as they are, but as an ebay seller, I can say that we are at risk of being defrauded, too.

Buyers who claim they did not receive the item or claim it was damaged, then file a false chargeback; buyers who threaten to leave you a negative feedback if they don't get a partial refund.

So while you know you are an honest person, PayPal does have a responsibility to the owner of the other account, to make sure everyone is on the same page as to what has happened.
