FWIW, I think you did the right thing by getting eBay involved. I would have done the same thing.
I do have 100% feedback, so I guess I would be attractive if someone were going to do that. I don't know what the scammer was trying to accomplish unless it is what you stated, just trying to see if I was paying attention. I don't sell on EBay and although I've been buying for 3 years, I've only bought 14 things so far. I guess it would be easier to scam someone who's not on frequently as opposed to someone checking every day. Luckily I had the email notification.
I must be on some scammer's list, though, because I got an email this morning from "Regions Bank" wanting me to follow the link to update my account information. DS's birthday party is today, but when I get home I'm changing my email address
