Ebay and 99cent auctions

I see so many people start the listings at .99 I have to say, I am too chicken to try it. I have a huge lot of Gymboree clothes I want to list all are like new and some with tags. About 20 pcs total from the same line. So, should I start real low or even .99. I would hate to have the auction close at 99cents.

Any thoughts?

Most of those who start items at $.99 make up for it in their shipping and handling..I personally dont like those kind of auctions that do that

I think you can put some sort of limit on what you will accept somehow because sometimes you read "reserve not met" which would indicate this to me. I could be totally wrong but it sure seems to me that it protects the seller from getting totally ripped off.

I personally don't like to list any auction for less than the minimum I'd accept for that item(s). BUT, I know many sellers have their views on this.

99 cent auctions supposedly attract more bidders (not me), but if I had a "lot" of Gymbo clothes to sell, I'd start them at my minimum amt I would be willing to get--if it's really high then go for a "reserve" auction. Although many frown upon reserve auctions there are many bidders who don't care and will bid. And, one thing about Gymbo items is that most buyers know they are "good" clothes especially if they are NWT or LN, so they won't mind bidding on a reserve auction. That's probably your best bet.

I have been ebaying since august of 04, and i just list things that I already have around the house. I look at it like if I get rid of it great one more dollar for the disney bank and more space in the house.

I just about always start my bids at .99 cents...if I have an item that I list for more I always research it and start the bid at 2.00 lower than the last highest winning auction started. I do believe the low the start the more bids you will get. I often don't have people start bidding until the last day too.

I always list Sunday to Sunday. Just because I reserve Sunday nights for this purpose. I teach full time and do two girl scout troops so my week nights are full.

I am not to the point where I actually buy things to sell on ebay so I am not a professional...I figure that will come when I finally get rid of all my extra's that I already have.

But you never know what will do well and won't a lot of my stuff that I thought would bring good $ didn't and then stuff that I thought would definitely be .99 centers went crazy. I think in the end it all balances out.

Plus you are not making any money with it sitting around! Good Luck!

I always start my auctions at the minimum I would be willing to accept. Personally, Ebay is too time-consuming for me to list anything for less than $9.99, but I have the option of selling on other, better-paying venues (since I sell books and ephemera, I list on Amazon).

Many people who list popular items for 99¢ do it because they know that they'll get closer to their asking price by auction's end. The listing fee is much lower than it would be for an item begining at $10.00.

Then there are the people who just want to clean out their closet, basement or garage and will take whatever they can get for something.

And finally, there are the people who have 99¢ auctions that charge outrageous shipping fees. These people are trying to avoid eBay's final value fee on their auctions. eBay does not charge the seller for their shipping costs, just what the final cost of the item was. This practice is known as "fee avoidance" and is against eBay rules. A seller's account can be suspended if they get caught.

Hi, I am a seller of childrens clothes new and used. I have been selling 2 1/2 years. I would never start the auction at 99 incase it doesn't go up.I have started things low thinking they would go up and somtimes they dont and a buyer will grab it in the last second for dirt cheap. The reserve is usually used for higher priced Boutique clothing. Start it at what you want for the item. Reasearch what the other sellers start at and go from there. The buyers know what it worth. If it doesn't sell relist.I find that Sunday night is a good night to list and have it end. It takes time to fiqure it all out but well worth it! Good luck!

I start some things at .99 cents, but only because I don't want to pay the higher listing fee. I got rid of a bunch of cooking stuff, and I refused to start it outt hat low, but most of it sold quickly with the BIN option.

There are very few items that I am willing to list with a 99cents. You have to be willing to accept 99cents for the item if that is what you list it for.
