do you like the finer restaurants, cheap eats or local places you do not have at home ?

I do all of the above

depends on what kind of mood I'm in when I get hungry but basically, if they serve food...I'm eating it:lmao:

i love places that we don't have in NOLA. we have excellent food and not many chains, so it's fun to try those on vacation.

we drove to baltimore last week (18 hours/2 day drive) and we found 5 guys burgers. we had lunch there twice on the way up and then on the way home. our nearest one is still over an hour away. so that was really fun and they are much better than your typical fast food place. i wish they had shakes though. that'd be heaven!

we also got to try red robin (yum!) in baltimore. we don't have any around here, but we get the commercials, so we were curious. not a bad place.

now in baltimore, we love getting crabs.:laughing::laughing: and it won't matter how much it is.

when we drive to fl, we hit a krystal burger (i think in lake mary, fl). they've been the freshest krystal's we've ever had. plus it reminds me of my childhood going to disney.

at WDW, we are trying to hit everything!

so i guess it doesn't matter, we try it all!

We usually like to eat in places we don't have here at home. Like our last trip to Florida we tried a Crabby Joe's, which of course we do not have here in Michigan. We had the big steam pot for two, oh my gosh was it good! Normally while on vacation we only eat two meals a day, a good hearty breakfast and then dinner around 4:00 or so and we try to make dinner a nicer restaurant.

When we were at Universal, I swear most of my meals were at TCBY. I really wish we had one around here!!

We are creatures of habit and tend to stick with things we know and like or things that have been recommended to us by friends or relatives. We also tend to vacay exclusively at Disney. We try to split our time between the tried and true favorites and one or two new ones that we've heard good things about.

Combination based on who is paying.

If work related.......best available :thumbsup2

Depends on where we are.

If we're at Disney, we like counter service with an occasional TS meal thrown in. We have our favorites in each park/area, and we stick to those.

If we're at the beach, we usually cook at the house (horror of horrors, I know!), and eat out a few times at a local seafood place. No meals at a chain restaurant at the beach!

If we're somewhere else, we go with what sounds good, but not usually a chain.

At WDW I like a mix of all of them, but anywhere else - I prefer low key local favorites. we are going up north in a few weeks and I am looking forward to dinner at a family run supper club on a lake. nothing better!

We are very adventurous and travel quite a bit outside the U.S. We enjoy 5 star dining but not every day. Part of the experience is to eat local cuisine.

At WDW--we go for the places that we think we will like the atmosphere and a few favorites.

At the beach-fun places, local favorites.

Our vacation rule is we do not eat anywhere that we could if we were at home.
The majority of our meals are probably middle of the range, not fast food and not fancy but sit down with metal utensils is usually what we look for.

I usually do a lot of research, we love to try out places featured on Drive Ins, Diners & Dives and been to several in different areas of the country.

We go to San Francisco a couple of times a year and our favorite meal is in China Town at our favorite restaurant. We have been known to eat there more than once in a trip and its cheap. Love it:lovestruc

we like to do food we don't have at home, but in different countries, we try to go to more local, hole in the wall type places because they typically serve more authentic food instead of trying to cater to tourists

I just want food to eat, but my husband is a foodie, so we do a little fine dining.

We do try to hit so local specialties.

We're not fine dining types at all, so it's never that. Usually when we're on vacation meals are just kind of a necessary evil and we want to get something quick that isn't fast food, that the kids will eat without griping about it, and get back to having fun. My basic thing is close to what mamacatnv said: nothing fancy, but I want to sit down and use real utensils.

My husband drives me a little crazy when we're on road trips, because ordinarily he refuses to eat fast food (which is fine with me, I'm really not a fan either) but if he's on the road trying to get somewhere he wants to just keep going. He's like the proverbial horse headed for the barn. So then we wind up in arguments because he wants to "just grab something and keep moving" and I want to actually get out of the car and sit down to eat something that isn't in a bun. :rotfl: Or maybe I WILL order something in a bun...but I want it on a plate not in a wrapper. ;)

Being from the UK, most US food is new to us, with the exception of Burger King, McD's and Pizza HUt. We don't even have Taco Bell!!!

We have a few favourites at Disney, but like to try US chains. We are particularly impressed with Cheesecake Factory, Sweet Tomatoes and Bahama Breeze.

depends where we are. we always try to go to a good steakhouse though, once or twice a trip. Ruth's Chris or the Palm anywhere, The Yachtsman and Shulas when in Disney, etc. We really, really try to avoid chains on vacation (Outback and the 'Roadhouse' one w/ the peanuts everywhere may be the only exceptions - we'll try local places instead.

Same here.

If we are at the beach, and we love where we are we don't go out to eat. We used to go out for surf and turf but found we could make it ourselves just as well, if not better and cheaper too. We make it a family thing where everyone helps out assembling stuff. It's fun. :)

We try for places we don't have at home. That includes local places and even chains we don't have at home. We don't enjoy fine dining so nothing fancy for us!

Vacations are play it by ear---some nights my daughter and I go to a fancy restaurant, other times its ice cream and fudge for dinner! We do try to stay away from the fast food places we have here though--we tried a place called chick-fil-a I think it was one vacation but that was really gross.
