eating in the room to save

I also wanted to post about "abusing the system". I am very aware that there are LOTS of people out there who do this and I cannot stand it. I have a cousin that lived with her parents, her husband & her 3 children so that they could reap all the benefits of being on food stamps, welfare and housing assistance. They got all new windows, new furnace, air conditioning, roofing, insulation & more for FREE because they had so many people living in one house. They both worked good jobs and could afford to buy all new furniture throughout the house, computer gadgets, cool phones and have big parties at the house every single weekend. Then guess what happened to them. They applied for a house from Habitat for Humanity and GOT IT! So basically a very, VERY discounted brand new house for working the system. During this time she would be going tanning & getting her hair dyed a different color every week... really? I think that's a bit much over the top and am just sick thinking about all the people that could've really used what they took.

Everyone has different stories but I think there are cases where it's warranted to say they didn't deserve that. You don't know our story and you're judging everyone who's on these programs already. It's sad that so many people have ruined it for others.

How is it not costing taxpayers money? Who do you think pays for all of your free food?
It's not the taxpayers. Read up on it before you comment and think you know it all. It's a federally funded program and one of the most profitable & successful. I can tell by your "stepping food" comment that you probably wouldn't get the reading thing.

I'm with DVCGirl: I can't imagine actually wanting to be in a foodcourt when I could eat in the comfort of my room. Anyway, I just wanted to suggest Power Bars. I consider them to be the breakfast of champions. Well, they work for me anyway. They cost about one dollar, they're shelf-stable, and they take up very little space.

Enjoy, OP.

:)

Where does the federal government get the money to fund WIC?

Oh I totally agree, I was responding to the quote where someone was being condescending about how people wear their bargains as a badge of honor. That I do! I would never, ever plan a meal around free condiments. In my first reply in this thread I mentioned that you should just buy a jar of goober and not rely on freebies.

I think sometimes DISers overuse the word entitlement. Entitlement DOES apply IMHO when someone takes jelly packets because they don't want to bother buying jelly. It does NOT apply when someone decides what THEY want to do with their limited income is different than what YOU want to do with yours.

When someone believes they are entitled to the govt feeding them and then entitled to use their money for vacation, it is an attitutude of entitlement. thanks anyway.

You are delusional, how do you think federal programs are funded! And WIC is meant to help people afford groceries. I’m sure there is some sort of income verification before being accepted. I’m glad my tax money is helping you build a better home, let me know if you guys are planning an extension so I could start working some overtime.

Will do :) Thanks! We are building a deck this spring, maybe if you could throw down for that? lol... love that your feathers are getting ruffled :) Do you all really think that the $15 voucher I get once a month is going to make or break my trip to Disney? Seriously?

lol, so where does the govt. get the funds?

While it may be deemed cost effective with poverty level people, the idea that people who can afford vacations need the same nutrient increases is pathetic at best. If you can research disney, you can research how to make good food for your child and pay for it.

Also, what do you mean by "profitable"? Profitable to whom?

WDW is not a right. Most people in the US never step food in a Disney park.

How is it not costing taxpayers money? Who do you think pays for all of your free food?

WDW is not just for the rich but for all who can PAY their own way in life and want to visit WDW.

right on!

I never went to Disney as a kid because my parents could not afford it, I’m sure if they were on government assistance then maybe we could have gone.

I will use it till we can't anymore. If you're so bent out of shape about it, run for congress and do something about it. Don't sit and nit pick at people on a Disney forum for pete's sake.

make or break is big with you isn't it? Why take it if you don't need it? Why take food you can afford from the govt or disney? It won't break the govt, it won't bankrupt disney, etc. Character is lacking in america due to this foolishness.

6 years of wic...$1080. ($15 a month)

I use it because it's HELPFUL to my family. I don't believe anyone NEEDS anything. I'm sure everyone could grow a plant and eat off of that if need be, right? But it's helpful and it's there and it's offered and we qualify so why not? I barely qualify and I will continue to use it until we don't qualify anymore. It's been helpful and I enjoy working with the people down at the office. I offer coupon classes for those coming in and teach many how to shop smarter and save money. WIC is not food stamps, like I said before. I don't take food from Disney either. I've never been so don't put words in my mouth. Character is lacking due to people like you who seem to think they know it all. Everyone's story is different. You don't know anything about me yet you people do nothing but judge. That is what is sad.

Feathers aren’t ruffled, it is actually entertaining to me how YOU have justified government assistance and at $15 mind you. If you need the government to give you $15 a month to make it, then you need to rethink your priorities. Ask your social worker if you can get an increase because you need to rent some DVC points :lmao:
